At Anglo-Eastern, we have long been mindful of protecting and preserving marine life and the eco-systems associated with our industry. We are delighted to announce that we have recently joined the League of Whale Guardians™ who have developed a proven methodology that translates into minimal impact of vessels on whales via established Whale Guardians routes. Whale Guardians is the international programme for the avoidance of ship strikes on whales, focusing on establishing approved traffic separation schemes and speed reductions to preserve whale populations. Preventing unintentional vessel strikes is critical for the survival of some endangered whale populations, especially the world’s largest animal, the blue whale. Last week was an eventful week for the maritime industry. Our colleagues, Martin Rowe, Aalok Sharma, and Capt. Shrinath Hegde were invited to participate in a series of events as panelists and keynote speakers during #HongKongMaritimeWeek. Martin Rowe, our Vice President of Business Development, shared his insights as a panelist at Hong Kong - UK Shipping Forum and Xinde Marine Forum, discussing “Counterparty compliance in a complex trading environment” and “Shipping finance and investment” respectively. He shared the importance of maintaining a safe and supportive environment for seafarers through risk mitigation, highlighting our work with classification societies and engine manufacturers to ensure our training helps crew and shore personnel support owners in meeting IMO decarbonisation goals through a "maritime just transition." In the latter panel, Mr Rowe drew attention to the current high-interest-rate environment and shipping’s need to deliver better long-term returns to attract investors. Many vessels in the market are not fit for purpose and hinder returns for responsible financiers. A more efficient mechanism is needed to retire or recycle these substandard vessels. Aalok Sharma, our Group Head of Training spoke at the session about #ammonia #bunkering during the Green Fuels Transition for International Shipping Workshop, covering “How to prepare for a safe bunkering operations with a focus on crew training and preparedness from an operator’s perspective”. He shared his experience and insights on this front, mentioning the need for collaboration as the industry prepares for fuel transitions. He emphasised that it is important to think outside the box when preparing training engagement tools that are relevant and can be scaled up for onboard deployment. Capt Shrinath Hegde, Director of Operations at Anglo-Eastern Tanker Management, spoke at the World Maritime Merchant Forum’s thematic forum titled “Tanker transport & safety management”. He shared the progression of technology in shipping across the past five centuries, with an emphasis on safety enhancements, navigation improvements, and the integration of AI technology. The adoption of AI-powered camera systems on vessels facilitates real-time monitoring, early hazard detection, and predictive analysis to bolster safety and operational efficiency. His presentation underscored the critical role of technology, past, present and future, in enhancing shipboard safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. At Anglo-Eastern, we have long fostered a culture of collaborating, prioritising safety, training and professionalism, valuing teamwork and the welfare of our staff at sea and ashore. We were delighted to have the opportunities to share our practices and the experiences of our experts, with our partners, counterparts, and the maritime community. #HongKong #MaritimeWeek #AngloEastern

The past quarter has brought both accomplishments and challenges in the maritime industry, each challenge presenting an opportunity to deepen awareness and pursue improvement. As the proverb says, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." At Anglo-Eastern, we’re firm believers in this, prioritizing collaboration and constructive dialogue to drive well-considered solutions. Over this period, we proudly joined the Maritime Energy Training Facility as one of 22 partners, in collaboration with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. In Athens, we celebrated a rebranding of our office and hosted a Frontline Senior Officers Conference, strengthening our network in the region. We also marked the 100th successful voyage of the PSU Eighth to Port Hedland and celebrated the graduation of GME Batch 41 and ETO Batch 15 from the Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy. In the Philippines, our team launched the first Mental Health Training Program for cadets, equipping them with valuable support ahead of their first vessel assignments. And as the importance of cyber resilience grows, we remain proactive in safeguarding our operating systems, backed by insights from our team of experts. This issue of #LeaderShip highlights these achievements and more, including stories of the people who stand as pillars within Anglo-Eastern. Our "On the Radar" feature profiles Capt Ajay Hazari, who has dedicated nearly four decades to our company and has witnessed firsthand the evolution of the maritime industry. Last month, Anglo-Eastern alongside Anglo Ardmore were presented with certificates of merit in recognition of our active participation in Amver in 2023, the Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue System sponsored by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) supporting emergency rescue operations at sea. Deepak Kumar, Managing Director of Anglo-Eastern, received the awards from Capt. James Suffern, Commanding Officer of Activities Far East of the USCG. As a long-time participant in this voluntary global ship reporting system, our managed vessels have played a part in many search and rescues operations at sea over the years. This recognition is a testament to our commitment, not only to upholding safety standards in the industry, but also to safeguarding the safety of all lives at sea. We are proud of our team, and particularly, our crews at sea for all that they do to contribute to these efforts. #AngloEastern #Amver #MaritimeSafety

We were delighted to join the 2024 Safe Ships Safe Ports Forum in Perth, where our Group Managing Director, Operations and Shared Services, Swapnodeep Mondal, delivered a presentation on the best practices for vessels in navigating safely under bridges. Organised by Pilbara Ports, this forum remains a staple in Australia’s maritime calendar and one of the largest conferences in the country. The 2024 forum provided a unique opportunity for industry leaders to collaborate on reducing safety risks and improving efficiency across the maritime sector. In his speech, Mondal emphasised that safe navigation relies on a combination of proper passage planning, effective usage of navigation equipment, and timely communication between ship crews and port authorities. He reiterated that the human element is the most critical link in preventing incidents, and that without the crew’s competence and dedication to safety, the operational process cannot function as intended. At Anglo-Eastern, we have long fostered a culture of safety, prioritising training, valuing human life and prioritising teamwork. Equipping our crew members with the right skills, knowledge and awareness is essential, even more so as the shipping industry continues to evolve, with bigger and more complex ships. Thank you to the Pilbara Port Authorities for organising this event and allowing us to absorb a range of perspectives. #AngloEastern #Navigation #MaritimeSafety
