Cultural Alert! The RedBall Project will land in Hong Kong from 6 to 15 in various locations across the city! The RedBall Project by artist Kurt Perschke is the world’s longest-running street artwork. RedBall integrates itself into local architecture, encouraging participants to contemplate the cultural and historical significance of these interventions and providing an opportunity for people to view familiar locations with a fresh perspective every day. Flamenco superstar Sara Baras will present the Asian premiere of “Vuela” at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from 6 to 8 December. Celebrated for her lightning-fast footwork, intricate movements of choreography and captivating stage presence, Baras is the foremost exponent of flamenco dance and one of the most prestigious and recognised Spanish representatives in the performing arts international scene. Design lovers alert! Hong Kong is achieving a significant milestone in the design world, with the holding of major design fairs and exhibitions across the city between November and December, including “DesignInspire”, “Maison&Objet Design Factory”, “Business of Design Week 2024”, “Detour 2024” among others. This can be seen as the first edition of a Design Week, after a successful Art Week organised every year in March. Whether you are a seasoned concertgoer or just starting to discover the wonders of classical music, you are in for many treats this November with Hong Kong Sinfonietta! The city’s flagship orchestra will welcome prominent artists for three fantastic concerts at Hong Kong City Hall: « Great Violin Concertos – Dan Zhu Plays Szymanowski » on 16 November, HKS « Recital Series: Michiaki Ueno Cello Recital » on 27 November, and « Cellomania: Michiaki Ueno Plays Lalo » on 30 November. Ahead of the concerts, we had the chance to chat with violinist Dan Zhu and cellist Michiaki Ueno about their musical journey and their collaboration with Hong Kong Sinfonietta.

French cinema lovers alert! The “Hong Kong French Film Festival” will return from 19 November to 10 December with more than hundred screenings across six cinemas. Jazz lovers alert! “Freespace Jazz Fest” returns from 24 to 27 October with a stellar lineup of worldwide artists. Don’t miss jazz legend Herbie Hancock, composer and percussionist Antonio Sánchez, Bali-born pianist prodigy Joey Alexander, as well as Hong Kong talents Ted Lo, Patrick Lui and RubberBand.

German soprano Juliane Banse will delight opera and classical music lovers with two concerts presented by Hong Kong Sinfonietta on 30 October and 2 November: “HKS Recital Series: An Evening of Songs + Chamber Music with Juliane Banse” and “Mahler and Richard Strauss – On Love and Death”. Ahead of the concerts, Juliane shared with us her musical journey and her enthusiasm to collaborate again with Hong Kong Sinfonietta.

This month, we are all about the diversity of Hong Kong art and cultural scene: dance, music, theatre, opera and photography, as well as inclusivity through art.
