How do you build resilient communities and healthcare systems following a crisis? In 2023, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) (Doctors Without Borders) cared for 1.4 million patients across 74 countries. Natural and man-made disasters have huge ramifications for communities, and some lack the skilled healthcare workers to deal with the immediate and long-term impacts. We are proud to support the MSF Academy for Healthcare – an initiative created to upskill healthcare workers in crisis-hit regions and build resilient communities. Over 1,000 people have graduated from the program, with almost 1,000 currently studying. We are putting our passion for education into supporting communities and training the next generation of healthcare workers. ↘ Read our Q&A with Sabine Rens, who has spearheaded the project since 2017: https://lnkd.in/ebEceKy3

About us
Some companies are in the business of technology. Others are in the business of finance, sports, or soft drinks. At EF Education First, we’re in a different kind of business. One that’s a little less tangible, and a lot more important. We’re in the business of understanding. For 60 years we’ve been the leader in international educational programs and culturally rich travel experiences with the power to change how people think, feel and act. The programs we deliver open the world to students and travelers in ways that challenge biases, overcome barriers, and pave the way for a more understanding world. You’ll find us working across more than 50 countries, with offices in some of the world’s greatest cities—each one filled with smart, driven people who push each other to be better every day. And yes, we have technology, we have finance, we even have sports with our own professional cycling team. But it’s what we do with it—building greater understanding, breaking down barriers, and creating a better world that makes all the difference. Today EF Education First turns 60 years old! 🎉 In 1965, Bertil Hult founded EF with $700 and a crazy idea. And in 2025, we’re celebrating this milestone birthday alongside 52,000 employees in offices around the world. Reflecting this week, I am filled with gratitude. I feel lucky that I stumbled across a newspaper ad for EF and decided to apply on a whim. I’m thankful that Bertil took a chance and hired 22-year-old me. And I’m proud to have played a part in the last 35 years of EF’s history, working alongside some incredible people dedicated to making the world a better, more understanding place. This birthday is a celebration of both the achievements of the past 60 years and all that’s left to come. It’s been an amazing journey, and we are not done yet! ↘ 1965: Origin story of EF Story 2/60 60 stories for 60 years Bertil was full of ideas. But in school he struggled with dyslexia. He was labeled stupid and didn’t finish high school. At 15, he visited an unemployment office and said, “I want to work for Sweden’s richest man.” The next day, he became a runner boy at a major Swedish bank chaired by Sweden’s richest man. Bertil delivered letters but wasn’t sure of his performance until his boss borrowed his uniform trousers. He returned them with sewn-shut pockets, saying, “That’s to keep you from putting your hands in them so you can’t be lazy.” This lesson changed Bertil. He worked tirelessly, sorting mail and running errands. A manager advised him to learn English to advance. So, Bertil moved to London, worked at a ship-brokerage, learned English, and gained confidence. With his mother’s help, he passed the high school exam and got into the University of Lund. Yet, he realized he might not succeed in a typical job. Teaming up with his brother Anders, Bertil began selling French T-shirts and espadrilles at fairs, later expanding to camel-skin bags from Egypt. Traveling with a suitcase of goods, he grew this into a mail-order business. At 22, while at a restaurant in Budapest, Bertil noticed Swedish flags on a table meant for the Swedish ambassador. Convincing a waiter to move one to his table, he struck up a conversation with the ambassador, who admired his ingenuity. One of the ambassador’s guests mentioned her son’s success taking Swedish students to France for language training. Inspired by his own experience in England, Bertil saw the potential in teaching English instead. English had transformed his life, and with its growing popularity, Bertil knew this was his next big idea. ↘ 1964: Bertil’s original letter to his mother Story 1/60 60 stories for 60 years From $750 USD and a one "crazy" idea, EF has grown to employ more than 50,000 people in over 100 countries. In the 1960s, Swedish student, Bertil Hult had spent years struggling with dyslexia. Unsure of his future, he moved to London for work. That summer changed Bertil’s life forever. By gaining an understanding of the English language, Bertil created opportunity for himself, and that opportunity was EF. In 1964, he wrote a letter back home about his "crazy" idea: "My dearest Mamma, I’m writing you now from my small room in Lund. The weather has been foggy, rainy, gray, and cold, like it usually is in Skåne. First, I’d like to tell you about my trip with Göran. We had a wonderful road trip through Europe to England, taking a ferry from Belgium to England in brilliant sunshine. In England, I had all the meetings that I needed and now I can start a little school travel agency that will send children over to England to stay with host families, have some lessons, and go sightseeing. Now Mamma, you must think this sounds crazy. But that’s not at all the case. I have really thought of every little detail and I am quite convinced that I will succeed..." "EF has been a big part of my life over the past 7 years. Pushing me to pursue my passion of exploring the world and continuously learning about myself and others along the way. During the pandemic, when I had to move to Canada from Denver, Colorado, to be with my now husband during that time, EF's global presence allowed me to continue working for this amazing company during those tough years, by joining the EF Tours Canada Team. The impact that we have on the world and the next generation of global citizens continues to inspire me daily and I am incredibly proud to be part of it." 💬 Jennifer 💡Senior Customer Success Manager, EF Educational Tours 📍Canada #WeAreEF #EFEverywhere
