Spreading Family First at McKinsey & Company! Nearly 20 years ago, one of my first job interviews was with McKinsey. After a few rounds of screening, I was confirmed for a final interview. This was back in 2008 during the global financial crisis. My interview was pushed back, and I never made it to their office. Fast forward 20 years later, I finally visited McKinsey’s office. This time as a speaker to share about Evercare Health’s social initiatives on McKinsey’s Day of Service - a day for all McKinsey colleagues to positively impact the community. We talked about: 🟢 tackling elderly loneliness at Evermove; 🟢 enabling low-income elderlies to age at home through our subsidized home care program; and 🟢 empowering healthcare professionals (many of whom are mothers) to balance both career and family responsibilities. Of course, I shared about Evercare’s Family First mission: to take care of those who first took care of us. We discussed how it was likely we would all assume the role of a caregiver at some point, whether it is for our parents, grandparents or a loved one. This major role reversal (the transition from being their child to their carer) is a huge inflection point that many of us are not mentally or emotionally prepared for. While this isn’t the typical corporate conversation, it’s exactly what we need more of. Family First!
