Credible Research | Shed lights on the Least Expected Risk Despite being one of the least corrupt countries, Singapore shocked the world with its recent high-profile corruption trial. He is the second Singaporean minister imprisoned in almost 50 years. Credible Research | Imperative for well-informed investment The experience of Xavier Justo and his family is a distressing reminder of the risk of telling the truth among corrupt players. The former executive at PetroSaudi International, a joint venture partner of the now-defunct 1 Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), was falsely accused, jailed, and threatened after leaking documents related to the 1MDB scandal. Our Chief Analyst Hanshih Toh recently interviewed Justo after he published a book “Rendezvous with Injustice – How a family survived hell after Blowing the Whistle on the 1MDB Financial Scam” detailing Justo and his family’s ordeal. Credible research and information are not often easy to obtain and reveal. But they are imperative for fairness, transparency, and well-informed investment. Corporate Investigation | The Perils of Improper Due Diligence This scandal involving China Forestry is another poignant reminder of the detrimental impact of inadequate due diligence. Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) earlier this month found China Forestry’s former CEO and chairman guilty of overstating the company’s 2008 turnover by 91.56% in the IPO prospectus. China Forestry’s IPO joint sponsor, Standard Charted Securities, was fined HK$59.7 million. Another joint sponsor, UBS Securities Hong Kong, had its license to advise on corporate finance suspended for one year. The risk for IPO sponsors is real. Failing to ask difficult questions and conduct thorough due diligence can result in damaging consequences. Follow us to learn about our creative investigation approach and due diligence services.
