About us

International Care Ministries (ICM - www.caremin.com) has been serving the poor in the Philippines since 1992. At ICM, we believe that no one should live in abject poverty. With the right support, the right training and the right resources, the bondages of poverty can be broken. In the past few years, ICM's community-based, holistic solutions have reached more than 750,000 people living in poverty - building resilience and greater well-being in families and whole communities across the Visayas and Mindanao. This wide impact is possible through a strategy of partnering with the local churches found in most low-income Philippine communities, inspiring hope and providing help to transform lives. After our four-month Transform program, ICM's ultrapoor participants experience: • 106% increase in household income (from 26 cent to 51 cent per person per day) • 28% decrease in serious illnesses • 43% increase in self-worth

  • Our Chief Health Officer, Dr Melinda Kelly Mijares, shared the exciting journey that our health team have been on in launching and growing our TB Active Case Finding initiative at the #UnionConf2024! Thank you International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) for hosting us. Our health team have been honoured to partner with Philippine Business for Social Progress to reach people at risk for TB in "last mile" communities. It truly is a testament to our staff's dedication that in 2023 we were able to conduct more than 100,000 x-rays, finding a 3.5% positive rate, and treating thousands who may have not been reached. ICM works to help remove as many barriers to accessing health care as possible. Dr Mindy shared, "We think our greater impact was in addressing the 'capitals' a person has from the person-perspective on the ground. We walked their walk with them - from ability to perceive all the way to ability to engage, and found the barriers they face along the way." Barriers still do exist and ICM is working on our 2025 strategy for even greater impact. Twelve percent of our communities are still unreachable by x-ray vans, and there are challenges around availability of medications. But we are optimistic that with ICM's innovative team, plus cross-sectoral partnerships, we will be able to provide healthcare to many more TB patients in the coming year.

  • Matt Young serves on ICM's Board of Advisors in Sydney, Australia. Last week he hosted a lunch and launched a matching challenge to raise up to AU$100,000 to serve the ultra-poor in the Philippines! Now they're 80% of the way towards that goal. Thank you Matt and Malcolm Wood for inspiring those around you to give with wisdom and discernment, as well as celebrating the joy of generosity! You're an inspiration. Thank you also to Macquarie Group Foundation for providing the matching funds.

This time last week I had the absolute pleasure of hosting an economic update / fundraiser lunch for International Care Ministries. ICM is uniquely focused on serving the ultra-poor (those surviving on less than $0.65 per person, per day) who have critical needs that go unmet. ICM's signature poverty alleviation program "Transform" fosters hope and invests in people by teaching them how to start businesses and how to save their money. We saw the tenacity of data collection & analysis from Malcolm Wood in his investment themes and in how he applies it in his economic empowerment efforts for ICM. Help us reach our target of raising $50,000 (we're more than 80% of the way there!!) and a massive thank you again to the Macquarie Group Foundation for their incredibly generous donation matching policy - if we get there we will raise $100,000 for this wonderful charity. This is directly impacting lives that quite literally need it the most. Thank you all for donating your time and money! https://lnkd.in/gZEGid-C Leane Mason (née Kopke) Michael Scanlan Sara Zahedi Sasha Southwell Lauren Tuck

More than 4 years ago we decided to start Innovations for Gospel Impact.  The goal was to bring pastors and businesspeople together. One of our first investments was in Uganda with International Care Ministries.  This week we were able to visit and see the massive growth of the Gospel and also well-being of the people outside Kampala.  Together: 350+ Communities 85,288 people reached with Transform 14-week program (that’s 17,057 graduates) 315 active savings groups launched which together have saved $622,146 (people are literally saving pennies at a time) 601 Malnourished children have been cured and saved from death 3187 pregnancies supported In addition, we went to Ethiopia to see one of our other early investments with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Heartbreaking to see children on the streets of Addis Ababa that are completely homeless.  The level of poverty is something we in the US cannot understand. Together: 537,569 children reached with the Gospel and food outreach 307,557 served as part of sustained gospel program with meal program 5129 weekly volunteers mobilized (that’s 5129 Good News Clubs) 50 Full Time workers hired and mobilized. At Innovations for Gospel Impact, we maximize your investment with Gospel-expanding ministries and life-saving giving.  As a businessperson, I never really knew where to give.  IGI FINDS / FUELS / FUNDS amazing ministries.  And then we MEASURE and REPORT. I always thought of giving as almost a requirement or responsibility.  Now I see that God blesses us and gives us an opportunity to be just as important as service workers on the front line.  Kyle Myers Alirio A. • Efficiency and effectiveness are core to us at ICM. Thanks to FMSC, we can provide a meal to a malnourished child for the cost of just $0.05! Feed My Starving Children are the most incredible partner. Their motto "Hope Starts with Food" rings true for the two million people that have been fed Manna Packs through ICM. Thank you FMSC for allowing ICM to start with food, and then continue with transformative training and resources to equip the journey out of ultra-poverty.

When David* was just 3 years old, he was more than 4 pounds underweight. And on his tiny toddler frame, 4 pounds too little was a big deal. David was skinny and frail. His hair was dry and dull. When he should have been running and playing, he was lethargic and weak.   “He often cries and gets distressed easily,” said his mother, Joy. She knew her son was undernourished and was trying desperately to help him. She asked for vitamins at a local health center. “I thought it would help [David] improve his appetite and gain weight.” But his health and his weight continued to decline.   Then Joy learned of the home-based feeding program run by FMSC food distribution partner International Care Ministries (ICM). She promptly enrolled David.   As a part of the program, Joy received nutrition education as well as nutrient-dense MannaPack® meals for her family. Joy was so relieved. She was equipped with both the knowledge and the food her son needed. ICM health trainers regularly checked in with the family along the way.   Much to Joy’s delight, David surpassed his goal weight within the next 11 weeks. He became active and playful and his face seemed to glow with health. Joy was amazed at the transformation. “He’s now cheerful and energetic!” She is confident that she now has what she needs to maintain David’s health — as well as her own. “I gained knowledge … and because of this my son’s condition got addressed. As a mother, I must teach my children to eat healthy food!” Fund life changing meals: fmsc.org/give   *Names changed for privacy. #feedingkids #foodisthefoundation

  • Thank you ARTHALAND for your generosity. What a great presenting sponsor for our event! We are honored that you chose to support ultra-poor families with effective and efficient strategies - thank you for leading the way in this industry!

Head of Sales Operations at ARTHALAND

ARTHALAND was honored to co-present the International Care Ministries (ICM) Manila Banquet 2024. This gathering wasn’t just about bringing together industry leaders—it was about making tangible efforts to combat poverty in the Philippines. Influential guests from Manila, including business leaders and philanthropists, joined a silent auction featuring artwork from both local and international artists. Proceeds go towards supporting ICM’s initiatives. ICM’s mission aligns with Arthaland’s values and our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 1: No Poverty). Partnering with ICM, which has impacted over 2 million Filipinos, reflects our belief that sustainable communities are about more than the environment—they’re about investing in people. I’m looking forward to our team’s visit to one of ICM’s communities to see how we can deepen our support and make a lasting impact. Have you seen any inspiring community-driven projects lately? I’d love to hear about them. #SustainablyArthaland

Supporting ICM to help ultra-poor communities shine We are proud to have recently contributed to the major annual fundraising events of International Care Ministries (ICM), a non-profit working tirelessly to transform the futures of the ultra-poor. Established in 1992, ICM envisions a world where no child has to live in ultra-poverty. It takes a holistic approach to fighting complex issues, finding and serving people living in mountain, coastal and other hard-to-reach communities across the Philippines, Uganda and Guatemala. In September, inspired by our desire to enable everyone to unleash their potential, we continued our long-term support for ICM by once again donating to its annual banquets and auctions in Singapore, Hong Kong and Manila. Since 2019, we have been delighted to provide Shangri-La Circle points as raffle and auction prizes, rewarding winners for their positive contributions to local communities with unforgettable moments at our properties. These successful events are just some of the community causes we have supported this year: through Shangri-La’s Embrace programme, each of our properties fosters an ongoing relationship with a local non-profit serving underprivileged women and children. Why not join your nearest Shangri-La at its next volunteering opportunity? We’d love to see you there. #ShangriLa #ESG #DoGood #Sustainablilty #Shine #ICM #InternationalCareMinistries
