📊According to a recent Dell'Oro report, #OpenRAN revenue has experienced a significant decline of 40% to 50% from 2022 to 2024. This decrease can be attributed to the condition of the #5G market in Japan and the US, as well as the readiness of next-generation O-RAN ULPI technologies. Despite the positive long-term outlook, the short-term perspective remains unclear due to completed large-scale deployments and the requirement for modernization projects to adopt the latest O-RAN ULPI interfaces.

#IPLOOK's converged charging solution supports online and offline charging for 4G, 5G, and IMS networks. It converts charging data into call detail records (CDRs) for local storage or real-time forwarding and supports both service-based and non-service-based interfaces. #𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠: Monitors account balances in real-time, suspending services when depleted and resuming upon balance restoration. #𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠: Updates balances at fixed intervals without affecting real-time services. Services stop if subscriptions are not renewed by the settlement date. As SA and NSA architectures evolve, charging systems are transitioning to centralized #𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐝𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠, unifying 4G/5G online and offline charging with a single interface. It also provides detailed billing for voice, SMS, and value-added services.

In #LTE networks, there are three main #SMS delivery solutions: 1) SMS over IP (SIP): Uses Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to send SMS over IP networks. SMS is encapsulated in SIP and sent through the IMS core network, efficiently leveraging existing IMS infrastructure. IP-SM-GW is required to ensure interoperability between the IP-based LTE network and the legacy 2G/3G circuit-switched networks. 2) SMS over SGs (SGs-AP): Utilizes SGs interface for SMS delivery between LTE and legacy 2G/3G networks. Connects LTE's MME to 2G/3G MSC for SMS exchange using SGs-AP protocol. 3) SMS over SGd (Diameter): Uses SGd interface and Diameter protocol for SMS delivery in LTE without relying on legacy networks. Connects LTE's MME to legacy SMSC/SMGW, employing Diameter for signaling and SMS transport. • 📝#IPLOOK TechNote Sharing: Key Frequency Bands and Their Coverage Capabilities Understanding the impact of frequency bands on coverage and data speeds is crucial for network design. Here's a concise overview of some key bands: · 600-700 MHz: Covers up to 15 km, excellent building penetration, ideal for rural areas. · 850 MHz: Ranges 5-10 km, strong outdoor coverage and penetration, suitable for urban/suburban areas. · 2.3-3.5 GHz: 1-5 km range, balances coverage and speed, perfect for urban/suburban areas. · 28 GHz and Higher (mmWave): Up to 500 m, high data rates despite sensitivity to obstacles, ideal for crowded areas like stadiums.

  • 📝#IPLOOK TechNote Sharing: EPS Fallback When a user initiates a #VoNR call at the edge of a 5G cell, poor signal coverage may lead to call difficulties, poor call quality, or even dropped calls. To mitigate these issues, EPS Fallback (EPS FB) is often employed, forcing the UE to switch to LTE/EPS for the call during the call setup. EPS FB is also applicable when the UE is not configured for VoNR calls, the 5G cell does not provide voice services, or the UE lacks the necessary VoNR capabilities. There are two primary options for EPS FB: 1️⃣Option A: After a successful initial call attempt, the 5G radio connection is released, and the UE is redirected to a 4G cell via a 5G RRC Release command. A new radio connection is then established for the #VoLTE call within the 4G cell. In this scenario, the UE context is transferred from the AMF to the MME via the N26 interface. 2️⃣Option B: A 5G-to-4G cross-RAT handover is performed, and the session management and user plane tunnels in the core network are also handed over from SMF/UPF to MME/S-GW. This is achieved through a GTPv2 forward relocation procedure over the N26 interface. *It is estimated that EPS FB introduces an additional call delay of approximately 2 seconds.
