And there are some genuinely positive things that can be done with facial recognition tech, that we’re excited to see: ✅ Easier access all-round If you’re reading this on a modern gen iPhone, face ID tech makes your life easier every day. Companies — whether it’s your gym, your apartment, or a betting operator — can use it to make accessing the services or products you need seamless and carefree. ❌ Anti-theft measures for shops: In the U.K alone, £7.9 billion is lost to shoplifting every year. Advanced facial recognition technology can pinpoint repeat offenders, and help police apprehend suspects. 🙇🏽 A personalized shopping experience Paired with AI, face ID technology could be used to establish a user’s unique skin profile, and match them up with products best suited to their complexion. 🏨 Speeding up hotel check-ins You’ve just arrived from a long flight, and you need to get ready for tomorrow’s important appointment. A long queue to the check-in desk isn’t ideal. Face ID kiosks can eliminate those queues and get you up to your room quicker. 👥 Helping problem gamblers One of the most impactful ways facial recognition tech will be used is to help problem bettors self-exclude effectively. Our money is on this being a strategic play to capitalise on the potential shift for in-flight gambling legislation under a Trump presidency 🎰✈️ During the previous Trump administration, the gambling industry saw significant growth, particularly with the expansion of sports betting at the state level. As a former casino owner, Trump has proven to be more receptive to the gambling industry, especially compared to the previous administration. The idea of unlocking in-flight gambling revenue is nothing new — past, out-of-date estimates suggest airlines could generate $1 million per aircraft annually. If regulatory barriers are lifted, the implications for airline profitability could be huge.
