From Vision to Reality – Hong Kong takes another step towards #HarbourLoop! Hong Kong’s waterfront is evolving, and the latest chapter is unfolding at the 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁. The recent debut of the #EastCoastBoardwalk signals not just a new recreational hotspot but further progress towards realising the HarbourLoop concept introduced by Lead8 a decade ago. Imagine a seamless waterfront experience weaving through Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour – a continuous, vibrant pathway that enhances public spaces and champions environmental sustainability with a zero-carbon mobility network. This is the essence of 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗽. “Our vision was to see an uninterrupted pathway that regenerates and reconnects underutilised spaces established along the harbourfront. Thank you to the RIBA Hong Kong Chapter for the opportunity to be a part of the inaugural ‘𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀’ 𝗲𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻! The RIBA Hong Kong Chapter, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Design Centre, recently hosted the exhibition featuring over 145 works from both architects and local university students to highlight the invaluable skill of hand drawing in the architectural profession. Among the exhibition pieces was an entry by Lead8’s Randy Carizo, Senior Associate Director. His sketch of the 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝟯 captures the development’s bold and transformative vision for Victoria Harbour. RIBA Journal admired the drawing for presenting a “macro view of the harbour with the precision of an urban sketch, deftly integrating its proposal into the familiar landscape.” The final collection of drawings at the exhibition created a rich architectural narrative reflecting Hong Kong's unique blend of geographical diversity, cultural richness, and transformation, which continues to inspire and challenge architectural practices.
