Sadly but not surprisingly, there was no consensus at the last of the 5 meetings of the Global Plastics Treaty in Busan, Korea yesterday. A further meeting is now expected to be held next year. The good news is that a majority of the countries were in agreement on the need to cap plastic production and eliminate harmful chemicals. It is also significant to note that these countries are pushing for the right solution and not compromising on the most important issues. Let's hope the outcome will be better at the next meeting. Plastic Free Seas will continue to educate our future generation on the problem of single-use plastic and excessive consumption. 28 of our Team Members partnered with Plastic Free Seas and their CEO, Dana Winograd, to learn about the impact of marine debris on our environment and the importance of preserving our coastlines. More importantly, we then went to Butterfly Beach to remove waste that has been washed ashore from the various rainstorms and typhoons. Over 114kg of rubbish and 85 plastic beverage bottles were collected, with 35 of the bottles sent to be recycled. #yesstyle #yesasia #reduceplastic #sustainability

Amazing results from Ireland's Deposit Return Scheme! Of course, we should be reducing the amount of packaged beverages we buy in the first place, particularly water. But it's important that the beverage packaging used is recycled to avoid the use of virgin material as much as possible. In the first month of the scheme, only 2% of the plastic bottles and cans sold that month were collected. In August, seven months in, the return rate was up to 73%, or 112 million drink containers, collected. The annual citizen science shore survey organised by Coastwatch indicated a large reduction in plastic bottles and aluminum cans washing up on the Irish shoreline since the introduction of the scheme. Four million plastic beverage bottles are sold in HK everyday according to recent sales reports. Only 15-20% are collected for recycling. Come on Hong Kong, we can do this! Yet another study has been published confirming that we are ingesting plastic. Microplastic was found in the stomachs of 26 cadavers. You can find the study here: https://lnkd.in/gzEnBagq Watch and share our animated video to learn more about the problem of plastic pollution in HK and what we can do as individuals. But this problem needs more than individual behaviour change to solve it. The HK gov't took a stand against plastic pollution this year by banning a number of types of single-use items such as plastic cutlery & straws, plastic tableware for dine-in, free plastic in-room hotel amenities such as single-use water bottles & body care products, and more. You can find out about this at https://lnkd.in/gh7tc7qY At the end of the November, governments from across the globe will come together in Busan, Korea for the last of 5 rounds of negotiations for a global Plastic Treaty to end plastic pollution. Some of the treaty goals include most importantly a cap on plastic production as well as the need to control hazardous chemicals used in plastic, and financial support for the adoption of solutions and assistance for developing countries. Individuals, companies and governments all need to do their part in the fight to end plastic pollution. What can you do? #ditchdisposables #saynotosingleuse #roadtobusan #PlasticTreaty

We are excited to see a new #RVM at Infinitus Plaza to replace the old ones that seemed to be 'out of order' alot of the time. It's been a popular location for recycling plastic bottles, and now that this new RVM accepts 3 types of packaging - plastic bottles, aluminum cans and liquid cartons - it should be even better utilised. Thank you H Properties for facilitating recycling by installing this new machine! Keep up the great work Andy Ho! I would love to see an RVM next to every beverage vending machine across HK! Vitasoy International
We are glad to announce that our first ever #3in1 #RVM is just launched at Infinitus Palza in Central recently. Please visit and recycle your beverage containers on hand like PET, can and tetrapak. We encourage consumers to recycle their bottles just finish drinking with easy step to get incentives offer by bottles and the location owner, #InfinitusPlaza. ♻️♻️♻️

This month is The Great Global Nurdle Hunt. People around the world are heading to the beach to hunt for pre-production plastic pellets (aka nurdles), the building blocks for things made from plastic. Acting as citizen scientists, they are uploading their findings to an online map. This info is used by Fidra to push for legislation to better control this form of plastic pollution, and to encourage companies handling them to take better care so they don't end up in the environment. Thank you to Marcy Trent Long and Sustainable Asia for inviting our Exec Director Dana Winograd to spread the word on the #TrashTalk podcast on #RTHK. You can find the link to the episode in the post below. Find out how to get involved here: https://lnkd.in/gwyWn2R8 The best solution to this plastic pollution problem? Use less plastic!!! #nurdlehunt2024 #letsgonurdling #plasticpelletspillHK2012
This week on #TrashTalk Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK): Dana Winograd of Plastic Free Seas talks about this year's Great Global Nurdle Hunt which is happening this month! Yes, Nurdles is a CUTE word, but these small plastic pellets, when not managed correctly, slip into our waterways... creating havoc with marine life and water supplies. If you are a plastic pellet user/producer...please take care these don't roll into our water drainage! Dana Winograd is holding a tube of 958 nurdles that was collected during last year's Great Global Nurdle Hunt, on Sam Pak Wan in Discovery Bay. Check out the Plastic Free Seas website on how to get involved. 🎧 https://lnkd.in/eEW4nQmm

A huge thank you to Enhanced Investment Products and the 12 teams who participated in the EIP annual Charity Football 6s Fundraiser last week. A whopping HK$500,000+ was raised for Plastic Free Seas and ImpactHK! Although we haven't fielded a team (yet) we always enjoy watching from the sidelines, cheering for Impact HK's fantastic team, and we love having the opportunity to meet the players and talk to them about the issue of plastic in HK and what we can all do to help solve this problem. #teamwork #fundraising #football #ditchdisposables, #saynotosingleuse Jeff Rotmeyer Paul Wong
