Have you ever used 3D printing to produce plastic products? There are many types of 3D printing used for plastic parts, but the three most common are: 1. FDM - Fused Deposition Modelling 2. SLA - Stereolithography 3. SLS - Selective Laser Sintering Each of these three methods has different strengths and weaknesses, which should be considered when choosing the type of printing for your intended project. 1. FDM: This type of printing extrudes thermoplastic filament through a heated nozzle, building up the model layer by layer. It is perhaps the most common type of printing, as these machines are affordable, have a small footprint, and are readily available for purchase. Many types of plastic can be used for FDM printing, such as PLA, ABS, and PETG. The downsides are that FDM printers can only print with moderate detail, the surface finish is not ideal and the part strength is lower due to the thermal bonding between the layers. 2. SLA: SLA printing uses a UV laser to cure liquid resin into solid layers. This method produces extremely detailed parts with a smooth surface finish, making it perfect for high-precision prototypes, jewellery moulds, and investment casting moulds. While the parts are extremely detailed, they can be brittle. For this reason, SLA-printed parts are not suitable for applications where long-term durability or high impact resistance is required. 3. SLS: This type of 3D printing uses a high-powered laser to fuse powdered plastic material into solid layers in a process known as sintering. SLS printing is used to create functional, durable parts such as hinges or enclosures. The heat from the laser creates a strong bond between the layers, giving strength in all directions. Startup costs for SLS printing are high - SLS printing machines can be expensive and the raw materials costs are higher in comparison to other printing methods. Printed parts can also have a rougher surface which may require post-processing if a smoother surface is needed.

Inspection of custom shaped USB-C right-angle connectors that we had manufactured for a client in the U.S. USB cables and connectors can be easily customised to meet different design requirements. Changes can be made to the size, shape and colour, making the products unique to your brand. #USBConnector #CustomManufacturing #ChinaSourcing

Coordinate measuring machines (CMM) are highly accurate and can measure dimensions at the micrometer level. We use these machines as part of our First Article Inspection (FAI) process to verify the initial samples of our machined parts. #cmm #qualitycontrol #manufacturing

We use a slitting and rewinding machine to customise the size of our direct thermal label jumbo rolls. This machine cuts the label roll to the correct widths and rewinds them onto new cores. The smaller sized rolls can be used directly in our customers' printers without the need of further processing. #DirectThermalLabels #LabelPrinting #ChinaSourcing

Ever wondered how carbon fibre rods are made? It starts with carbon fibre sheets, pre-saturated with resin (pre-preg), which are wrapped around a core using a specialised rolling machine. The carbon fibre covered cores are then tightly wrapped in tape before being cured in an oven. Once the curing process is complete, the cores are removed, leaving behind strong and lightweight carbon fibre rods. Thanks to their high strength-to-weight ratio, these rods are often used as tent poles ⛺, fishing rods 🎣 and in drone assemblies. 📩 info@semic-international.com 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eTcB4kH5 #CarbonFibre #ChinaSourcing #CustomManufacturing

A majority of the projects we work on are completely customised. We take original designs/drawings from our clients and have them manufactured in China. The pictured edge-lit light, shows a previous project where we were asked to assist with manufacturing an over-moulded housing for a webcam light, along with several other metal and plastic accessories. 📩 info@semic-international.com 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eTcB4kH5 #CustomManufacturing #ProductDevelopment #ChinaSourcing

Sending samples of direct thermal labels from China 🇨🇳 to a client based in the UK 🇬🇧 Direct thermal labels are widely used across various industries. Since they require no ink, toner or ribbon, the printing process is straightforward and cost-effective for higher volumes. These labels are best suited for short term use, which is why they are widely used in retail and logistics. 📩 info@semic-international.com 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eTcB4kH5 #DirectThermalPaper #LabelPrinting #Labels

Always ensuring that our products are delivered without damage. These wooden crates were constructed to ship sand cast products to the US. With each crate holding 57kg worth of powder coated products, we had to use packaging that would protect the parts during transit from China to the US. 📩 info@semic-international.com 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eTcB4kH5 #CNC #SandCasting #ChinaSourcing
