We are absolutely delighted to share the incredible news that our President, Gigi Fu, has been honoured with the prestigious "Global Chinese Leadership Award" by the Global Academy of Innovative Enterprises in recognition of her outstanding commitment to animal welfare. Congratulations, Gigi! Since 1995, Gigi has been a steadfast supporter of various charitable initiatives organised by the SPCA. In 2000, she elevated her commitment by spearheading fundraising campaigns, leveraging her influence to engage the public in charitable efforts and champion animal welfare causes. Since 2004, Gigi has been at the forefront of our mission, serving as our President and Trustee. Gigi believes that every life deserves respect and care. This belief has been the cornerstone of her leadership in advocating for animal welfare. Through hands-on efforts, advocacy, and educational initiatives over the past two decades, she has worked tirelessly to safeguard the well-being of animals in Hong Kong and to put an end to their mistreatment and suffering. Congratulations once again on this well-deserved recognition! With Gigi's guidance, we are committed to continuing our mission of creating a city where all animals are treated with compassion and respect. #SPCA #SPCAHK #AnimalWelfareLeadership #GlobalRecognition

About us
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) was first formed by a group of volunteers in 1903 and officially registered in 1921. Although we are the first charity in Hong Kong to deal with all aspects of animal welfare, we obtain only 1% of our funding from the Government. The rest of our funding comes from the generosity of the general public. Despite limited resources, we continue to launch new initiatives to improve animal welfare and meet a growing and diverse societal demand. We offer a one-stop service for animal welfare – from rescue, medical services, rehabilitation, adoption, post-adoption services to education. Our Mission "End animal cruelty, alleviate suffering, and protect the health & welfare of all animals across Hong Kong through actions, advocacy and education." Our Vision "Creating ONE HONG KONG where all animals are treated with compassion and respect."

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) embodies a company's commitment to the society. We are delighted to witness how RECARO Aircraft Seating Asia Pacific Co. Ltd. (“RECARO”)– the Best Corporate Fundraiser of our Charity Raffle 2024 - has exemplified how businesses can positively impact animal welfare in innovative ways. RECARO's CSR programme is centred on fostering a compassionate and sustainable future. Their focus on promoting awareness of animal welfare in Hong Kong and nurturing a more pet-inclusive community resonates perfectly with our mission. In September and October, RECARO organised a series of successful fundraising activities in support of us and our annual Charity Raffle. These initiatives included designing an animal print tee, charity sales, a second-life charity sale with over 200 donated items, and a charity auction with participation of their APAC team online and onsite. RECARO also rallied their network, which resulted in a remarkable total contribution of HK$50,000 to the SPCA Charity Raffle 2024. But RECARO’s support goes beyond raising funds for our Charity Raffle. They have been actively engaged in our Corporate Volunteer Programme, dedicating time to providing direct assistance to our animals. Their generous donation of HK$13,200 to the Programme further underscores their dedication to animal welfare. Irene Tan, General Manager of RECARO Asia Pacific, a longtime adopter from the SPCA, also recently adopted 2 more cats in her recent visit to the SPCA Jockey Club Centennial Centre. Their dedication directly impacts animals in need, covering vital daily expenses and critical medical care. We are immensely grateful to RECARO for their unwavering support of animal welfare. If you hope to support us and make a difference in Hong Kong's animal welfare in your unique way, reach out to us today: community@spca.org.hk #SPCA #SPCAHK #AnimalWelfare #CorporateSocialResponsibility #CSR

Effective communications and cooperation with the Fire Services Department (FSD) are essential to facilitate rescue missions and help more animals who are in danger. On 30 October, some passerby discovered a bird entangled in string on a tree about two stories high outside a mosque on Oi Kwan Road. Upon receiving the call, our inspectors and firefighters promptly responded to the scene. They deployed a hydraulic platform, raised the inspectors to the bird's location, secured it in a net, and pruned the surrounding tree branches. The myna was found with its right foot trapped in a string. The inspectors transported it back to the SPCA Tsing Yi Centre. After carefully removing the string, the bird was transferred to KFBG for further evaluation. The success of the rescue is a result of a seamless joint effort between several parties, including the SPCA, FSD and KFBG. To foster close communications and collaborations, we often co-organise workshops and training outside of rescue missions. These range from special tours of KFBG for our members to animal first-aid training for firefighters, all led by SPCA Inspectors. The SPCA animal rescue service is free. No pet owner ever wants to think of the day they need to part with their beloved pet, but the option to give our pets a quick and pain-free death to end their suffering is a matter of good animal welfare and our last act of kindness to them. Leaving an animal to suffer is poor animal welfare and should never be an option. In our latest Pawprint magazine, we dived deep into the topic to help animal lovers understand why a veterinary surgeon may recommend euthanasia from an animal welfare standpoint, and to help pet owners determine when it is time to let go to end suffering. We are also providing transparency to debunk some long-standing misconceptions about our euthanasia policy for rescue animals at the SPCA. Read the full article online and let us know your thoughts in the comment section. Recognising the importance of improving pet healthcare services in Hong Kong and the growing demand for related talents, the SPCA has devoted significant resources to the advancement of veterinary professionals and services over the years. As part of our ongoing commitment to veterinary education in Hong Kong, the SPCA and CityU Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) have been partnering to provide hands on veterinary skills training at our Centres since the commencement of the course. Starting on 27 November, our ongoing collaboration will be offering Vaccination and Wellness Clinics at a 15% discount exclusively for SPCA members at our Tsing Yi Centre. This service will be available every Wednesday for a limited time period only! The clinics will be conducted by final clinical year veterinary students under the direct supervision of experienced JCC veterinary surgeons. Clinical examinations will be given over an extended time frame of 30 minutes for vaccinations and 60 minutes for Wellness Clinic to allow for a thorough examination and discussion of findings with the JCC veterinary surgeons and students. This initiative is an excellent opportunity for SPCA members to get a top-class examination while helping Hong Kong’s future vets get the hands-on experience they require. By participating in these clinics, you’re not only ensuring your pet receives high-quality care, but you’re also helping to train the next generation of veterinary surgeons. This involvement is crucial for fostering future professionals dedicated to animal welfare and enhancing the well-being of our animal world. Schedule an in-depth “nose-to-tail” check-up for your beloved pet today and support the vets of the future! Book an appointment on 2232 5555! We were thrilled when the The Hongkong Bank Foundation HSBC GameChanger team reached out to ask the SPCA to be one of the Experience Partner for the Love 21 Foundation members and the HSBC mentors. Through their mentoring programme, we had the opportunity to introduce the participants to the SPCA and help the members explore diverse career paths within our organisation. They got to learn first-hand about our inspector's day-to-day work of rescuing animals in need, how our dog trainers help our rescue pups find homes, and the ins and outs of our homing assistants who care for our animals every single day. The members also helped us create tug toys on the day. Big thank you to HSBC for giving us the opportunity to showcase different careers in animal welfare. If you're interested in learning more about our volunteering programs or community projects, please reach out to us at community@spca.org.hk. Our team is excited to create bespoke programs tailored to your needs. #HSBC #HBF #滙豐 #滙豐銀行慈善基金

Last month, our team had the privilege of visiting the Google Hong Kong office for a #TGIT event. We hosted a fireside chat featuring our Deputy Head of Inspectorate, Marsha Chun, and our Community Director, Jenmon Y., shedding light on the current landscape of animal welfare in Hong Kong. It was truly inspiring to engage with a community of dedicated animal enthusiasts, advocating for the crucial role our SPCA inspectors play in championing justice for voiceless animals. From evidence collection to aiding the legal process alongside law enforcement and the courts, this vital service is carried out with just 1% of government funding, solely dedicated to serving our beloved animals. During our visit, we discovered Google's remarkable commitment to inclusivity with one of the most thoughtful and extensive dog-friendly policies in the city, ensuring a harmonious environment for all—Googlers and Dooglers alike! We look forward to the next event and to bringing our very own rescue paws to join the Dooglers. To host one of your first animal welfare events at work, drop us a note to chat more community@spca.org.hk. #SPCA #SPCAHK #PetInclusivity #EmployeeEngagement #SPCAInspectorate

Today is World Animal Day! This day is celebrated internationally on 4 October as it is the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. This day was established to raise awareness and improve education on animal welfare standards so that animals worldwide can live the lives they deserve. This year’s theme is “The world is their home too” and aims to serve as a reminder that animals are sentient beings who also deserve our care, love and respect – from pets to homeless animals, and wildlife. Across the globe, people celebrate World Animal Day in various ways, there are so many options for everyone to get involved. Join us on this special day by donating, signing up to be our member/volunteer or joining any of our pet care courses to help improve the lives of animals: https://lnkd.in/gp7YHtRz #SPCA #SPCAHK #WorldAnimalDay #FUNdraising
