🚀 Attending PyCon Africa 2024: A Transformative Experience 🚀 I recently had the privilege of attending PyCon Africa 2024, here in Ghana, from 24th to 28th September, alongside my mentor Zenas Awuku and friends. This event brought together an incredible community of developers, researchers, students, and professionals from across Africa and beyond. It was an inspiring environment, filled with workshops, tutorials, and talks, all centered around our shared passion for technology and open-source development. This was an unforgettable experience, especially being part of the DjangoGirls workshop. My skilled mentors, Desmond Brown and Phillipa Bennett-Eghan from Talent Co-Op guided me through the basics of Python, Django installation, and helped me build my very first blog using Django. I also gained valuable insights from talks like Automating Background Jobs with Celery by Joseph Adediji, Fast Django: Conjuring Powerful APIs with the sorcery of Django Ninja by Julius Boakye, and Data Feminism in AI enabled Healthcare by Ubaida Abdulai which opened my eyes to different applications of technology.I also thoroughly enjoyed the numerous other talks and keynotes presented at the event. Although I couldn't contribute much to the open-source sprints, I thoroughly enjoyed being introduced to Fury, a free and open-source library for scientific visualization and 3D animations. Special thanks to Jason Quist for patiently guiding me through it. This experience has solidified my passion for programming and open-source software. I had the incredible privilege of serving as a Meta Coach at PyCon Africa's Django Girls alongside the talented Anthony Addae and Rahmat Akintola. It was an exciting and enriching experience, where I had the pleasure of meeting experts like Seth Mensah from Talent Co-Op, who did a phenomenal job mentoring our participants. As we prepare for the upcoming Django Girls Koforidua Workshop, alongside my amazing co-organizers, Clifford Nana Sarpong and Jones Amarkai Amarteifio from Eastern Tech Hub Foundation, I’m thrilled at the possibility of having these experts join us once again. Their guidance would undoubtedly make the experience even more impactful for our aspiring women in tech, and together, we’re committed to providing them with an unforgettable learning journey. Fueling Tomorrow’s Innovators Talent Co-Op is dedicated to nurturing emerging talents through innovative learning experiences. As a strategic partner, we celebrated the successful completion of the “Ethnic Minority and Local Partnership Innovative Programme”, organized by MWYO @mwyo_hk and co-hosted by “BLOG” Hidden Youth Career Life Development, the North Point Happy Teens Club @nphtc of Hong Kong Christian Service, “Project Gemstone” @projectgemstone, and Deloitte China @deloittechina. Over the past few months, a group of young talents acquired essential skills in coding, program development, and design thinking, significantly enhancing their tech knowledge. Their innovative solutions addressed challenges faced by ethnic minority youth, empowering the community through technology. Despite initial challenges, they diligently refined their product concepts, enhancing their knowledge, sparking creativity, and preparing them for future technological landscapes. The exposure you get in our Tech Apprenticeship program: At Talent Co-op, we believe in empowering our talents with exposure to the tech industry’s brightest minds. Our flagship apprenticeship program doesn’t just build technical skills - it opens doors to networking, mentorship, and real-world insights. Recently, our Hong Kong team lead had the privilege of participating in the “2024 Future Close-Up Tour” - a 9-day exploration that gathered 27 rising stars from 21 countries. This event, hosted by Tencent, the the China International Communications Group (CICG) Center for the Americas and THINC Fellowship #thincfellowship, immersed our apprentice in the vibrant technological, ecological, and cultural landscapes of Beijing, Shenyang, and Xiongan. Through this exceptional opportunity, the participants forged meaningful connections with entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts, scholars, and industry leaders. They exchanged ideas, gained mentorship, and uncovered the latest trends shaping the future of technology.   The Foundry 2024 Sharing Days concluded successfully at the end of last week. Big thank you to our main growth partner and funder, the The D. H. Chen Foundation, for enabling this year’s program to reach more schools (therefore students) and engage with many more like-minded D2S:Mentors. Not only did we see the amazingly diverse and creative ideas from teams across different schools, we also got to hear from 10 successful professionals and entreprenuers from different industries who provided valuable advice and inspirational sharing of their own.
