Trailblazing sustainability education through transformative experience

About us

V’air is an education organization with the aim of promoting sustainability through transformative place-based experiences. “V’air” is a homophone to “Vert”, which means the colour green in French. This unique name displays our mission of making the earth greener. “Air” represents air-travelling. Combining “vert” with “air” means incorporating elements of green and travel. This can be achieved through offering local tours which resemble the experience of air-travelling. At present, V’air fulfills our mission of combating climate change through three main channels - organizing local tours, public education events and content creation. In October 2017, V’air published “Low Carbon Tourism (低碳。好行)” by Wan Li Books. The book records 39 itineraries in rural and urban areas with knowledge on environmental conservation. V’air is generously supported by Chinese University Social Enterprise Fund, Sustainable Development Promotion Award organized by Environment Bureau, Gold Award of Sunny Passion Programme and Dorsett Young Entrepreneur Scholarship. We have also received wide media coverage from Mingpao, TVB and RTHK. Facing the imminent climate crisis, V’air is determined to dedicate our efforts as youth in influencing everyone in the society take a more active role against climate change and other sustainability challenges. [Let's collaborate!] V'air organizes ecotours and environmental workshops for corporate and institutions. Email us: hello@vairhk.com

  • [Activity Recap: Ma Shi Chau Tour on 24 Nov] On 24 Nov, we hosed a tour for a group of lovely Filipinos and Indonesians "Jei Jei" to appreciate their hardwork and contributions for being the caring volunteers of the AIDS Fundation Hong Kong. It was a perfect day for such a tour to explore the history and culture of Sam Mun Tsai San Tsuen. They also enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Pat Sin Leng and Tolo Horbour before reaching the Ma Shi Chau Special Area. Our R2G tourguide introduced some of the oldest sedimentary rocks in Hong Kong to "Jei Jei", also explained various formation processes of different rocks. They also got the chance to see "Screw Pine" (nickname "Fake Pineapple 🍍 ", "Jei Jei" were amazed🥰. They then caught a boat operated by local villagers back to Sam Mun Tsai San Tsuen Ferry Pier. It was a perfect way the end the tour by travelling through different local fish farms in the ocean. We are glad to create such a wonderful memories for these lovely volunteers! Please feel free to contact us if you want to find out more information for the Ma Shi Chau Tour. Looking forward to our next memorable journey. #MaShiChau #SamMunTsaiSanTsuen #SedimentaryRocks #PatSinLeng #ToloHarbour #localtravel #SustainableTourism

  • V’air Members Participate in OxfamTrailwalker2024! As the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP29 Azerbaijan) takes place in Baku, Azerbaijan, six V’air members teamed up from November 15 to 17 to take on the Oxfam Trailwalker challenge, crossing 100 kilometers of the MacLehose Trail in just 48 hours. We tackled 23 peaks, including the highest, Tai Mo Shan, starting from Sai Kung and finishing at the Harrow International School in Tuen Mun. After six months of preparation, we faced blazing summer heat and heavy rain, witnessed rainbows after storms, even encountered fireflies in the dark, and greeted Macaques along the way. Each summit we reached revealed just how little we knew about the beauty of Hong Kong—it's truly stunning! The journey was tougher than expected, especially after Tropical Cyclone Toraji, which left the trail muddy and treacherous. Many participants struggled, with some even having to withdraw. However, we supported each other and completed the challenge in 43 hours and 12 minutes! 🤟🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This November marks a rare phenomenon with four typhoons active simultaneously in the Western Pacific Ocean, the first occurrence since 1961. Experts attribute this to abnormally high sea temperatures in the Western Pacific. With last September's black rain and this month's typhoons, it prompts us to reflect on the severity of climate change today. We hope this experience inspires everyone to pay attention to climate change and explore the hidden natural beauty of Hong Kong beyond its bustling cityscape! 🌱💚 #Vair #VairSustainabilityEducation #ClimateAction #OxfamTrailwalker Oxfam Hong Kong

  • Shared from "Hong Kong Environmental Issues, Health & Environment, South China Morning Post". Published on 1 Nov 2024. [Is Marine Park the Solution to Protect Endangered Marine Species e.g. Chinese White Dolphins?] Chinese white dolphins are vulnerable to noise, water pollution, increased maritime traffic, and changes in estuaries. With the construction of the third runway at Lantau Island, there are great concerns among marine conservation experts. In fact, the number of endangered Chinese white dolphins has declined dramatically since construction began in 2016. Despite the establishment of the North Lantau Marine Park, experts are still concerned about its effectiveness in protecting the habitats of this vulnerable species. The conflict between "Urban Development" and "Nature Conservation" has always been a controversial issue. As difficult as it sounds, the government, conservation institutes, developers, and the Hong Kong Airport Authority must find a way to maintain the balance between man-made infrastructure and our ecosystem. Tell me your thoughts! #ChineseWhiteDolphins #MarineConservation #ThirdRunWay #UrbanDevelopment #Ecocystem https://lnkd.in/g8Jq5Ru7
