ZA Bank announced today the launch of a new service allowing retail users to trade cryptocurrencies directly via its mobile app. Established in 2017, ZA Bank is Hong Kong’s first and largest digital bank, serving over 800,000 users. On November 22, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that Chairman Gary Gensler will officially depart on January 20, 2024. Since taking office in April 2021, Gensler has spearheaded significant reforms aimed at enhancing market efficiency, resilience, and integrity. Under his leadership, the SEC has conducted thousands of enforcement actions, recovering approximately $21 billion in fines and returning $2.7 billion to harmed investors. Gensler has notably intensified enforcement in the cryptocurrency sector, addressing issues like fraudulent trading and registration violations, with around 18% of FY2024 tips related to crypto. He has also pushed for reforms such as shortening the stock settlement cycle and improving disclosures on network and climate risks.
