This was the hotel chosen by the tour operator (Globus) for the start of our tour of Spain and Portugal highlights. With a couple of exceptions that I note below, the hotel was very functional for its purpose. Other than its utility as a hotel for tour groups (there seemed to be at least three while we were there), I probably would not choose it for a tourist stay in Barcelona because it didn’t seem to be walking distance to anything of particular significance—although it is close to a subway stop. The hotel room itself was nothing special. Typical European-style smaller-sized room with two twin beds rather than than the single King or Queen bed that most American couples prefer. The A/C system was very good and the linens were made of excellent cotton on top of nice firm mattresses. The room also had a safe, a mini-fridge with beverages for sale, a plug-in hot water kettle with teas, but no coffee. The shower, with a rain shower head and a hand-held head had good water pressure. One completely dysfunctional element: the toilet paper holder was very far behind the toilet (rather than to the side or in front) making for an uncomfortable reach. Although at check in, there was a self-serve container of water available, that was not found at any other time I looked. There was no filtered water dispenser available in the hotel and no complimentary water in your room. Therefore, unless you walked to a supermarket or convenience store (admittedly not far from the hotel), you would have to pay for a bottle of water from the mini-fridge. Probably the best thing about the hotel is the breakfast buffet (which our room rate included, so I don’t know what a breakfast charge would normally be). The buffet includes an espresso machine, various juices, breakfast meats such as sausages and (soggy) bacon, somewhat runny scrambled eggs, mini-sandwiches, deli meats and cheeses, yogurt, pudding, cold cereal, fruits, and a variety of baked goods, such as churros, rolls, croissants, mini-danish, sliced breads, etc. Everything was tasty. Hot tip: use the sliced bread, put some butter on it, and use the deli meats to make yourself a sandwich to take with you (wrap in a napkin) while touring or for emergencies.
