Premier Inn is no longer a budget type hotel. That being the case I expect more than just one hard chair in the room. Guests are expected to try to relax sitting on the bed propped up with pillows. There were two of us and one hard uncomfortable chair. The room was large enough for two comfortable chairs but there was nothing. After a long day it is not much to ask and, having traveled extensively comfortable chairs are common in other hotels and when paying these prices we expect comfort. Also there were no other options than warm quilts with windows that don't open so the room was hot with the air conditioning that did not go below 19 degrees. However, reception and the welcome were great and the room was clean and spacious.

As with all Premier Inns, they maintain a level of consistency that you know what you can expect. It is clean, modern, well laid out, well maintained and odour-free. The aircon wouldn’t go below 19c, and understandably the windows don’t open either. The Aircon also turned off twice during the night making the room get warm again so have to get up to turn back on. The duvet is far too thick and heavy. It is a heavy winter duvet and we are bang in the middle of summer. The sofa is not comfortable to sit on, but it also isn’t comfortable as a bed making it not work as a twin room. Breakfast in the Brewers Fayre opposite, the food was expensive and fairly unpleasant. The meat free sausages are imho not fit for human consumption they are pretty vile. The hotel though is good and reliable.

We went to Bideford for a weekend away from the problems at home. The hotel checkin was smooth. The location, about 1.5 mils from the river was good. It’s an easy walk into town, uphill climb coming back, there’s one steep section to get out of the town itself where they could do with a base camp halfway to allow you to recover. The hotel room was clean, comfortable and most importantly, quiet at night. Parking was really easy. There’s shops nearby so you can get food to make your own or get something hot and cooked. The town itself is, mmmm, interesting. Maybe it was just a bad time of year but the two women who were very drunkenly shouting abuse at another woman, who as far as I can determine had slept with one of their boyfriends was not quite what we’d expected as our first impression of the riverside area. It’s easy to get to the tarka trail from the hotel if you’re into walking, running or cycling.

Brilliant service. The receptionist "whitney" was great and so helpful and just brilliant ! Would recommend staying here perfect rooms and great breakfast next door. But mainly then receptionost was amazing and so helpful she deserves a pay rise ! ( adam edwards)
