I booked a night at the Clarion on TripAdvisor because the reviews and price were reasonable. I guess I should have read the reviews rather than booked based on the 3.5 star rating. We showed up and were checked in quickly and easily. My wife went shopping while I decided to check my email and watch TV. Tried connecting to the wifi and it kept saying it couldn't get an IP address, so I went to call the front desk, but no phone in the room? So I walked to the front desk to be told the wifi only works some times and that if it wasn't working now try again later. Fine, I'll use my data plan. Then I went to turn the TV on, pressed the remote about 10 times to get it to finally come on, tried changing channels and I would need to press the button 10 times to go up a channel except when it did go up a channel it went up 2 channels. OK, must be the batteries, so I walked to the front desk again to get new batteries. Changed them but the TV still didn't work any better. Spent 10 minutes finding the hockey game on TV and decided I better not change channels again. The room was in what I would consider poor condition, in the bathroom the bottom trim on the vanity had fallen off and was leaning against it, there was a spider crawling up the wall, the only available outlet in the room not being used by the lamps or TV didn't work, the kleenex box was empty, the door latch to the rear entrance on the hotel was lose and ready to fall off. But the final straw was when my wife came back and went to get into bed, there was a large round red spot on the comforter that looked to be blood. She pulled it off the bed and walked to the front desk again and showed the lady working there (Jennifer was her name) Her reaction was to say ”Well I didn't do that” No ”sorry about that” or apology. She got a new one for my wife and as she was walking away she heard Jennifer say to her daughter, who was sitting in a chair in the lobby, ”That looked fresh” which my wife heard. Wow, blaming the guest for bleeding on the bed. The next morning my wife went to talk to the supervisor about it and when she went to the front desk and asked for the supervisor the lady at the desk went and knocked on the office door, then she came back a couple of minutes later and said ”I guess I'm the supervisor today” That told me that the manager really didn't care about customer complaints. Take my experience as a reason to not stay here next time you're going through Grand Rapids.
