  • 💻 🧚♀️ 🎧 ⚡ KONTEJNER | bureau of contemporary art praxis is excited to present 'Floating Codes' by Ralf Baecker Step into 'Floating Codes'—an immersive light and sound installation that brings you into the hidden aesthetics and complex dynamics of artificial neural networks. This unique setup transforms the exhibition space into a vibrant, responsive organism, with numerous custom-made artificial neurons arranged in a hexagonal grid. Inspired by the synchronizing behavior of fireflies and neural network models, each neuron in 'Floating Codes' senses light and communicates by emitting pulses, creating evolving patterns of light and sound. As visitors move through the installation, they witness signals looping, mutating, and synchronizing across the network—mimicking processes like memory, feedback loops, and random pattern generation. Each neuron, equipped with photosensors and speakers, interacts with its environment, generating an ever-shifting landscape of light and shadow that challenges perception and immerses the audience in the language of machine intelligence. Join us for the exhibition opening on Thursday, 7 November 2024 at 7pm in KONTEJNER (Odranska 1/1, Zagreb)! More info: https://lnkd.in/duEVTpNq

  • 🌱 🚀 KONTEJNER | bureau of contemporary art praxis is excited to present the Ex.A.R.U. project at the 'Breathing Beyond Boundaries' exhibition by Dorotea Dolinšek. The Ex.A.R.U. (Exo Auxiliary Respiratory Unit) project involves a monoculture greenhouse (featuring broad-leaved aglaonema and alocasia plants), around which an experiential situation of controlled breathing takes place, necessary to maintain human functions in extreme environments where air is absent, scarce, or unsuitable for inhalation. In outer space, which is at the core of the artist’s interest, this speculative scenario appears as an imaginary landscape that prompts contemplation about the survival of humans, who are physiologically determined by the atmospheric substrate of their home planet. In this imaginary dramaturgy, the greenhouse is conceived as one of many units filled with vegetation optimized for maximum oxygen production and equipped with sensors and watering systems that extract water and nutrients for plant nutrition from human urine, acting as life-support systems for the survival of the human body in an airless environment. In Ex.A.R.U., the experience of breathing air, which is taken for granted on planet Earth, becomes—via the momentary experience of asphyxia—the ultimate edge, where visitors don a breathing mask connected to the dome, allowing them to experience and internalize the elemental necessity, as well as the ephemerality, of the thin layer of air that envelops all life on Earth. The exhibition is organized as part of the Future DiverCities project. The exhibition opening takes place on October 10, 2024 at 7 pm Learn more here: kontejner.org

  • 🎤 🎧 We invite you to discover the new episode of the podcast series Designing for Regenerative Landscapes, part of The School of Feral Grounds, featuring a conversation with the feminist design researcher Bianca Elzenbaumer. The podcast is created within the framework of the Future DiverCities project. What is it about: What happens when a designer shifts her focus from creating objects and graphics to designing economic cultures? By choosing not to engage in representational design activities, produce prestigious exhibitions, or build her career in prominent academic positions, Bianca's daily commitment to social change in the Vallagarina valley attracts (young) people to stay. Discover how her 40-year project vision transforms disturbed Alpine valleys into vibrant rural settings through fizzy drinks production, a mobile pizza oven, situated pedagogies, and groundbreaking research into land commons. In the face of escalating climate change, biodiversity decline, and social isolation, she leverages the community economy theories of feminist geographers J. K. Gibson-Graham to reshape economic practices and improve the livelihoods of all living beings. Listen here: https://shorturl.at/wPTdU #futuredivercities #CreativeEurope

  • Join us for the opening of the exhibition 'The Three Falls' on June 20 (7 pm) at KONTEJNER! 📀 🔈 The exhibition explores three events dramatically inscribed into the physical and mental space of the city – the devastating earthquake that struck Zagreb in March 2020, the unresolved crash of a Soviet military drone in March 2022, and the downfall of the media giant Vjesnik, liquidated and finally vacated in 2023, with its former printing complex now housing the KONTEJNER exhibition and performance venue. Speculating with the topological models of catastrophe, material debris found in-situ, and using sound as the fundamental medium, the exhibition juxtaposes three different durations: geological, geopolitical, and political processes, immersing visitors in a site-specific stratigraphy of sudden, but perpetuating collapse. From the exhibition catalog: "The collapse of Vjesnik signifies not merely the last chapter of post-socialist disintegration but also the final collapse of the McLuhanian universe. At a time when 'the model became the message', McLuhan’s original phrase has become an emptied historical artifact. The exhibition treats the architecture of the fallen media giant as a bare medium, and its debris as a material surface for inscribing events as raw data, equally unreadable to humans and machines. Offering no singular meaning or forensic exactitude, the exhibition soundscape folds time and space, politics with geological processes and planetary warfare, into an affective catastrophe playing in endless, irregular loops. Instead of daily newspapers, the exhibition becomes a damaged black box playing the soundtrack of 'now'." (Nikola Bojić) Exhibition authors: Nikola Bojic, Miodrag Gladović, Damir Gamulin, Damir Prizmić The work was produced by KONTEJNER | bureau of contemporary art praxis within the DIY_ARTLAB (UradiSam_ARTLAB) project The exhibition is open from June 20 to July 13, 2024.
