About us

Our journey began on April 1, 2008. REGEA was founded by the City of Zagreb, Krapina-Zagorje County, Karlovac County and Zagreb County through the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme and has shown that different political options can work together and listen to the profession. In 2011, we joined the European Association of Regions and Energy Agencies FEDARENE, which gathers more than 90 members - European regions, islands and leading energy agencies. In the last 15 years, REGEA has encouraged, led or implemented investments of over 500 million euros. We have implemented 84 EU projects, and there is no available source of European funding to which we have not successfully applied at least once. Also, we were the first in Croatia to launch a program with the intention of encouraging citizens to use renewable energy sources, covering as many as 10,000 households. Moreover, REGEA managed the project of the first and still the only municipal biomass heating plant in Croatia in Pokupsko. Our company implemented the first Croatian projects of solar power plants according to the electricity sales model (PPA) on the roofs of hospitals in Zabok, Krapinske Toplice and Karlovac. We are also pioneers in financing projects for the energy renovation of schools through savings that we have been implementing since 2011. So far, we are the first company in the EU which has successfully applied twice for the EIB's ELENA program. Furthermore, we started the first ELENA project, NEWLIGHT, in 2015. The result is investments in public lighting in 24 cities and municipalities worth HRK 100 million. Additionally, in 2021, the company started another ELENA project – PVMax. The goal is to prepare and launch investments in at least 100 MW of photovoltaic power plants throughout Croatia. We led the renovation and opened the Bračak Energy Center in 2017, the first NZEB historical building in Croatia. In 2020, we became the national coordinator of Climate KIC HUB Croatia.

  • Act local…but let’s harness the benefits of transnational cooperation to bring positive changes to our cities!    🚶 🚐 🚶♀️ 🚲 🚶♂️ ➡️ 👩🦽 🚃 🌳    The Citywalk 2.0 project promotes the energy transition in the transport sector by drastically reducing energy consumption in urban mobility systems. It aims to shift away from energy-intensive car dependency toward active mobility (walking and cycling), micromobility, and public transport.  To drive this change, we need:  🚸 redesigned streets that encourage active mobility and discourage car use,  🚦a shift in citizens’ behavior,  👨💼 stronger political will and commitment to truly implement the energy transition.    At the second Citywalk 2.0 partner meeting, we didn’t just talk theory! In rainy Bucharest, we put ourselves in the shoes of pedestrians and people with disabilities, experiencing firsthand how accessible (or inaccessible) urban streets are for those without cars.    🚨 The conclusion: change is urgently needed! ⏱️    An important step forward is the planned pilot project in the City of Karlovac. It will improve the quality of public spaces and positively influence the daily travel choices of all citizens. Expect more details this December, with the pilot implementation set to begin next year! 👏    This project is supported by the Interreg Danube Transnational Programme, co-funded by the Interreg Fund and the Republic of Croatia.    #energytransition #inclusion #streetdesign #sustainablemobility #urbanmobility

  • Green Urban Spaces: Solutions for Climate Resilience 🌿 🌍 Why Nature-Based Solutions? Climate change is creating increasingly serious challenges in urban areas, such as heat island effects, prolonged droughts, and more frequent summer wildfires. The INFIRE project addresses these challenges by implementing nature-based solutions that contribute to more resilient, sustainable, and healthier cities. 🔧 REGEA and the Pilot Project in Croatia As the project coordinator, REGEA oversees the implementation of pilot activities in both Croatia and Portugal. In Croatia, a biosolar roof is being installed on the building of the Karlovac City Library. This innovative solution combines renewable energy technologies with green surfaces, reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing the quality of urban living. 🌱 What’s Happening in Portugal? In the pilot municipalities of Setúbal, Sesimbra, and Palmela, the following activities are underway: ▪️Development of green schoolyards for children and young people ▪️Creation of green corridors to connect urban green spaces ▪️Tree planting and establishment of community gardens as gathering spaces for residents 🔧 What are the Goals of the INFIRE Project? Mitigating the heat island effect 🌡️ Enhancing biodiversity and improving ecosystem quality 🌳 Creating accessible and functional green spaces for all community members 👩👩👧👦 📍 Beyond implementation, the project provides support to public institutions for more effective planning and financing of climate adaptation measures. #interregeuromed  #infireproject #enegytransition

  • Ne zato što je naš, već zato što je zasigurno jedan od najboljih govornika iz područja energetike... Strast, a ne posao, dovodi do tranzicije... 💚

Special Adviser on Energy and Climate at Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia

Make Europe Great Again treba biti naš fokus… 📸 Davor Puklavec, Pixell
