🌿 Innovative Insect-Based Protein Solutions Aligned with Circular Economy Principles 🌿 Bio-Fungi Ltd., in collaboration with the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), is spearheading a pioneering research project to address key industry challenges through circular economy practices. Supported by a €1.2M grant under the GINOP_PLUSZ-2.1.1-21-2022-00183 project, we are exploring how mushroom compost waste can be effectively recycled using insect larvae, driving both agricultural and environmental sustainability. Why Insect Protein? Insect-based protein production offers a sustainable solution to waste management. By feeding insects with agricultural by-products, we convert waste into valuable proteins. The residual materials generated by these insects are rich in nutrients and can be reintegrated into agricultural systems, enhancing biological efficiency. Our Focus: Compost Recycling: We are investigating how various insect species can efficiently break down spent mushroom compost and convert it into high-value materials. Technology Development: Our goal is to develop a modular, containerized larvae-rearing system to process compost at scale, ensuring that both the insect protein and residual by-products are fully utilized. Potential Impact: Agricultural Benefits: Insect protein could be used as a nutrient-dense additive in mushroom cultivation. Cost Savings: The nutrient-rich by-products could reduce the reliance on costly fertilizers, fostering a more sustainable farming model. This research not only addresses the increasing demand for sustainable waste management solutions but also aligns with global environmental goals. By 2025, we aim to have identified the most efficient insect species for large-scale compost recycling. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #InsectProtein #BioFungi #AgriTech #WasteManagement #EUResearch #MushroomCompost #Innovation #GreenSolutions

🚛 Food Donation Convoy: Standing Together for a Better Future! 🌍 We are proud to have been part of the Food Donation Convoy organized by the FAO and the Hungarian Food Bank, where trucks loaded with 45 million HUF worth of food donations made their way through Budapest. This year, our company also took part in this meaningful initiative, contributing 13,925 kg of fresh mushrooms to help families in need. 🍄💚 The World Food Day, which spans across more than 150 countries, highlights the global effort to fight hunger and malnutrition. This year’s focus is on the right to food as a basic human right. Ensuring access to nutritious, safe, and sustainable food for everyone is crucial to building a better and more sustainable future. 🌱 Some sobering facts to reflect on: Around 733 million people suffer from hunger worldwide. Approximately 32% of food produced globally ends up wasted, contributing significantly to climate change. In 2023, nearly 135 million people faced severe hunger due to conflict in 20 countries. 2.8 billion people cannot afford a healthy diet. Women are 1.3% more likely to suffer from hunger than men. Over 1.6 billion women and children worldwide are affected by vitamin and mineral deficiencies. The convoy not only raises awareness but actively helps tackle food insecurity, delivering much-needed resources to vulnerable communities. Let’s keep working together to make nutritious food accessible to everyone! #WorldFoodDay #FoodSecurity #RightToFood #ZeroHunger #FoodDonation #BioFungi #Sustainability #TogetherForBetter #MushroomsForGood 🍄Magyar Élelmiszerbank Egyesület

Since 2016, our unique SchoolMushroom (Iskolagomba) program has aimed to introduce students and preschoolers to the fascinating world of mushrooms, both in theory and practice. 🍄 🔹 Each participating institution receives two mushroom-growing bags, along with downloadable educational materials, posters, and placards. 🔹 So far, over 12,000 children have had the opportunity to take part in this program, and we are proud of the impact it has made! It's essential to nurture the next generation by setting examples and mentoring them, especially in fostering healthy lifestyles. 🌱 Many children might not initially enjoy mushrooms, but through this experience, they may discover how interesting they are and be encouraged to try them! 🍽️ Together, we can inspire a healthier future! 🍄 #Iskolagomba #Sustainability #Education #HealthyLiving #MentoringTheFuture

We had the honor of welcoming Mr. Htaung Naung, Myanmar’s Ambassador in Prague, and his wife to our company recently. Although Myanmar does not have an embassy in Hungary, we are proud to have a significant number of Myanmar colleagues who have been part of our team since 2019. Each year, the Ambassador visits our site, offering a unique opportunity for our Myanmar employees to discuss various matters directly with him. Our colleagues from Myanmar enjoy working with us and have embraced Hungary as their second home. We are grateful for their dedication and hard work. Myanmar, known as the "Golden Land," boasts rich cultural heritage, diverse ethnic groups, and breathtaking natural landscapes. We are proud to strengthen the ties between Hungary and Myanmar through the contributions of our fantastic team.

🔄 Sustainable Agricultural Practices at Bio-Fungi Kft Bio-Fungi Kft. is committed to long-term sustainability and environmental protection. In line with this commitment, we place great emphasis on the recycling and agricultural use of spent mushroom compost. This compost, a byproduct of mushroom cultivation, is a valuable soil amendment that significantly contributes to sustainable farming practices. What is spent mushroom compost? In mushroom cultivation, a specialized compost is used, made from straw, chicken and horse manure,  gypsum and peat as a casing material. Once the mushrooms are harvested, the compost is no longer viable for mushroom production but still holds substantial agricultural value. This material, known as spent mushroom compost, is rich in humus (20-25%) and essential nutrients, with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Part of a sustainable agricultural solution At Bio-Fungi Kft., we aim to treat spent mushroom compost as a valuable resource rather than waste. Repurposing this compost provides multiple benefits, from improving soil quality to enhancing crop productivity. Key benefits of using spent mushroom compost: 1. Moisture retention and soil structure improvement 2. Nutrient supply and high humus content 3. Weed growth suppression 4. Nitrogen stabilization and soil quality improvement 5. Reduced need for lime 6. Sustainable nutrient replenishment Environmental responsibility at Bio-Fungi Kft. Each year, Bio-Fungi Kft. produces a significant amount of spent mushroom compost (~200,000 tons/year), which we strive to recycle sustainably. Instead of treating this material as waste, we repurpose it as a valuable agricultural resource, capable of replenishing the nutrients in thousands of hectares of farmland. This approach not only enhances agricultural efficiency but also reduces environmental pollution, as the proper use of compost avoids the negative impacts associated with waste disposal. Bio-Fungi Kft. believes that adopting sustainable farming practices is essential for the future of agriculture. Recycling spent mushroom compost is a tangible and effective step toward that goal. #Sustainability #SoilAmendment #MushroomCompost #EnvironmentalProtection #BioFungi
