The international project „Circ-Uits” „Circular Integration of independent Reverse supply Chains for the smart reUse of IndusTrially relevant Semiconductors”, launched on January 1, 2023, aims to address the emerging semiconductor materials crisis by supporting value chains in the automotive and mass electronics industries. The project develops digital solutions for the design, manufacture and management of electronic components and end-of-life products. The project also includes testing in an appropriate industrial environment. The aim is to develop sustainable methods, based on a circular model, to produce new high added value components and products by reusing semiconductors from different sources and supporting their remanufacturing. The main objectives of the three-year project are: To fully exploit the potential and benefits of circular practices through digital technologies. Increasing resource efficiency, independence and reducing the negative environmental footprint of electronics manufacturing processes. Improving the sharing, exchange and standardization of information and data between industry leaders in the same and/or similar value chains. Demonstrate the benefits of the digital circular economy through 4 pilot projects: Support the development of an environmentally friendly electronic control unit embedded in electric vehicle inverters and battery management systems Development of new generation tire sensors Support the development of embedded circuits Improving the classification and storage of obsolete printed circuit boards from various electrical and electronic equipment

CEN and CENELEC WORKSHOP: ‘Digital Product Passport for Printed Circuit Boards’ The planned CWA establishes a common view on how a 🛂 Digital Product Passport (DPP) for 🪫 Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) should be structured and which data are necessary to develop circularity in electronics. The development of a CWA on Digital Product Passport for Printed Circuit Boards is proposed as there is the need to define the type of data to be embedded in a DPP for PCBs. As consensus-based guidelines the CWA will establish a common view on how a DPP for PCBs should be structured and which kind of data are mandatory to really allow and apply circular approaches in electronics. The planned CWA is intended to be used by policymakers, manufacturers, industry associations, experts, recyclers; research institutes, … and will be drafted during the CIRC-UITS project timeframe. 🗒️ 👁️🗨️ All interested parties are invited to submit comments on the draft Project Plan using the commenting form available in the link: https://lnkd.in/dFMKR2Yk

Our #CircUits partner DIN is the German Institute for Standardisation and serves as an independent platform for standardization in Germany and worldwide. More than 37,500 thousand experts from economy, research, consumer protection, society and the public sector contribute their expertise to the standardization process, which is managed by DIN as a non-profit organisation. The results are market-driven standards, which can promote trade, quality assurance, social and environmental protection as well as safety and understanding. With long-term experiences in supporting research projects, DIN helps to ensure the long-term dissemination of project results by implementing them in standardization documents. DIN represents Germany within CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, and ISO, the International Organization for Standardization. This gives the opportunity to present relevant project findings to relevant technical committees and stakeholders. In doing so, the uptake of CircUits results may be promoted. DIN is the standardization partner within the European research project CircUits. The aim of the standardization task in the project is an early identification of standardization potentials as well as the initiation of standardization activities. As circular economy is an very important topic for DIN, DIN wants to support the transformation to a circular economy in Germany, Europe and worldwide through standardization by participating in CircUits. #Circuitsproject #HorizonEU #Sustainability #CircularEconomy
