It's one thing that I will give a keynote speech at the Rīga Stradiņš University Research Week later this month, but I will speak after the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs. No pressure! :) In my presentation, I will describe how the paradigm shift of digital health will further progress by AI becoming the newest member of the medical team, and what future physicians can expect from all these changes. See you in Riga! Register now: https://lnkd.in/dW4-ctVt Opening Plenary session programme: https://lnkd.in/dW4-ctVt

The mission of The Medical Futurist Institute is to initiate public discussions about how the old paradigm of the paternalistic model of medicine is transforming into an equal level partnership between patients and professionals and how it is aided and augmented by disruptive technologies. By providing reports, publications and daily commentary on new technological innovations, the Institute aims at preparing every stakeholder of healthcare for adopting digital health in a way that the human component remains decisive. Under the term “digital health”, advanced medical technologies, disruptive innovations and digital communication have gradually become inseparable from providing the best practice healthcare. While the cost of treating chronic conditions is increasing and doctor shortages are imminent worldwide, the needed transformation in the structure of healthcare and medicine fails to catch up with the rapid progress of the medical technology industry. This transition is slowed down by strict regulations; the reluctance of stakeholders in healthcare to change; and ignoring the importance of cultural changes and the human factor in an increasingly technological world. With access and adoption of technology getting higher, the risk of patients primarily turning to an accessible, but unregulated technological solution for their health problem is likely to increase. We need to acknowledge the ongoing cultural transformation and include digital health in the practice of medicine.

Tech companies keep on announcing generative AI tools for physicians. Now Microsoft just announced Dragon Copilot which can draft documentation like clinical notes, referral letters, and post-visit summaries. The questions that it raises for me: Which tech company will offer the best AI service that they can prove through peer-reviewed studies? Which tech company's AI tools will physicians trust more? If I were a policy-maker, I would dedicate a lot of effort to solve these questions. Source: https://lnkd.in/dBfaa55B

Due to a population decline and healthcare professional shortages, Japan sees its opportunity to properly care for the elderly by using robot nurses. While the Moravec paradox is against that, the intention is understandable. "Recently in Tokyo an AI-driven robot leaned over a man lying on his back and gently put a hand on his knee and another on a shoulder and rolled him onto his side -- a manoeuvre used to change diapers or prevent bedsores in the elderly. The 150-kg (330 lb) artificial intelligence-driven humanoid robot called AIREC is a prototype future "caregiver" for Japan's rapidly ageing population and chronic shortage of aged-care workers." If you have a clear idea about how things should be working and you get frustrated when they don't live up to your expectations, this book was written for you. It describes the 5 types of perfectionists and not only that: it describes how each type must rest, think about the future, and what to do to become an adaptive perfectionist. I recommend books to you from time to time with good heart, but this one is really a gem! BTW, I'm an intense type. If you find out yours, please share!
