Knowledge of sustainable practices will enable future leaders to drive a greener future,” says Hendra Hosea, Sustainability Manager at Apical. For Greenfest 2024, our ongoing outreach programme for palm oil education, we partnered with Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and the University of Riau for Greenfest 2024, engaging over 500 students in Riau province, the regional hub for Indonesia’s palm oil plantations. This year’s speakers included Hosea, Dr. Hermanda S Pd, Rector at University of Riau, Sakti Hutabarat, Lecturer for Agribusiness at University of Riau, Dr. M. Windrawan Inantha, Deputy Director for Market Transformation for Indonesia at RSPO and Aang Ananda S of news portal bisnis.com. “We hope Greenfest will inspire the next generation to support and advocate for a sustainable palm oil industry,” adds Hosea.

“Ranking in the Top 5 in the latest SPOTT Assessment for the fourth year in a row highlights our leadership in transparency, accountability, and sustainable practices,” says Chandramohan Nair, Apical’s Head of Sustainability. SPOTT, an initiative by the Zoological Society of London, evaluates over 100 palm oil companies to drive positive change in the industry. “We are proud of the achievements of our independent smallholders and certainly hope that they will continue to grow in the future,” says Chandramohan Nair, Apical's Head of Sustainability, at the Annual Roundtable Conference on Sustainable Palm Oil 2024 (RT2024) in Bangkok. Jambi-based smallholder Novie Zulhi and his cooperative, Perkumpulan Kotani Mandiri Bersama (PKMB), were RSPO-certified (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)) with support from the SMILE programme. Developed by Asian Agri, Apical, and Kao Corporation, the initiative guides smallholders in adopting sustainable practices, environmental protection, and respect for workers’ rights. “Receiving RSPO certificate at this event is incredibly meaningful and proud for me and the PKMB cooperative. Certification is a symbol of international recognition for our sustainable plantation efforts and adds value to our palm oil products. This award motivates us to continue doing good things that will have a significant impact in the future,” says Novie. RSPO certification aligns with our #Apical2030 Inclusive Progress vision to support smallholders on community empowerment, and improving their livelihood.
