Tentang kami
The Little Fireface Project (LFP), headed by Professor Anna Nekaris, studies the ecology of the Javan slow loris, and contributes wherever possible to the conservation and ecology of loris species throughout their range. The project’s scope of research is widespread encompassing behavioural ecology, museum studies, genetics, acoustics, taxonomy, conservation education and chemical ecology. The LFP team also conducts evaluated outreach and education programmes for local communities to get them to join the conservation movement. Our mission is to obtain vital data about all loris species to contribute to their conservation in the wild and in captivity, including aiding rescue centres in reintroductions and aiding in the welfare of slow loris pets in countries where it is still legal to keep them. We intensively use, monitor and evaluate social media to inform the public world-wide about the plight of slow lorises to mitigate their trade. LFP began under the remit of the Nocturnal Primate Research Group at Oxford Brookes University, UK in 1994, and became an independent project in 2011. Our work covers all lorises, including the African pottos and angwantibos, and Asia’s slender and slow lorises. We have since named seven new species, and have studied six species of loris for a year or more in the wild, contributing novel data on diet, habitat use, social organisation and population status. Our current main field project is on the Indonesian island of Java, where we have initiated the first-ever long-term study of a lorisiform primate in the wild – the Javan slow loris. At the same time, during country-wide surveys in forests and illegal markets we also study other obscure nocturnal animals, including colugos, pangolins, civets, small cats, mustelids and owls. We also have initiated a behavioural study of common palm civets in West Java.

We are delighted to celebrate Prof Anna Nekaris OBE, the world’s leading slow loris expert, as she delivers a captivating Osman Hill Memorial Lecture on "The Myth of the Solitary Primate: Using New Technology to Dispel an Old Misconception" Her groundbreaking research is rewriting our understanding of primate behaviour, shining a light on the social lives of nocturnal species. A huge congratulations on receiving the prestigious Osman Hill Medal in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to primatology! #SlowLoris #Primatology #ScienceInAction #OsmanHillMedal #AnnaNekaris #WildlifeResearch #PSGB #PrimateSocietyofGreatBritain Anna Nekaris OBE Primate Society of Great Britain

New Paper Alert! We’ve just published an open-access study assessing animal visitor interactions in 225 Southeast Asian zoos. Sadly, of the 1,165 interactions recorded, we found many activities that lead to poor animal welfare—like forced animal selfies, riding, and feeding animals unhealthy foods. From our findings, we urge zoo visitors to think twice and consider the animal’s perspective. Not everything offered aligns with good animal welfare! Zoos have a big influence on how the public views animal interactions, and many we studied were even internationally accredited. We hope accrediting bodies step up with more rigorous welfare checks. #LorisLiaisons Hallo this is Ranim from 2nd shift observing Xena with Bang Yiyi. Tonight Xena was very active, usually she will explore the area near the sleepsite, only moving between bamboo to kayu putih and kaliandra merah. But tonight she went quite far. Xena moves from one tree to another. Every time she wanted to bridging she would walk slowly to reach the branch, sometimes her hands couldn't reach the branch, but she still forced herself to pass there. After she was satisfied with her exploration, she went down past the labu, and headed for the suren tree close to her sleepsite. I thought she was getting tired and started to go into her sleepsite to rest. 📽Alice Johnston & Will Hall . . . . . . #kukangjawa #primataIndonesia #primateconservation #konservasisatwaliar #primates #CriticallyEndangered

#WildlifeFriendly Every tree sapling planted in an agroforest is a promise to wildlife 🌳💚, and it’s even more powerful when done together with the community! By coming together, we’re not only creating diverse habitats for animals, insects, and birds but also strengthening our connection to the land and each other. These young trees grow to support sustainable farming, protect natural water cycles, and nurture ecosystems that thrive alongside agriculture. Together, let’s build green spaces that are alive with life and community spirit! 🌍✨ #Agroforestry #WildlifeHabitat #CommunityPlanting #SustainableFarming #Biodiversity #FirefaceCoffee Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network
