Our Senior Partner, Rahayu Ningsih Hoed, recently spoke at the International Bar Association (IBA) Anti-Corruption Committee Asia Conference held from 11-12 November 2024 in Marina Bay, Singapore. Her session, "Corruption and Dispute Resolution: Navigating Ethical Challenges in Litigation and Arbitration," explored the ethical complexities faced in addressing corruption allegations in legal proceedings.   The panel discussion, moderated by Justice Hri Kumar of Singapore’s Supreme Court, included insights from notable speakers Alain Grieder (Schellenberg Wittmer, Singapore), Suruswadee Jaimsuwan (Tilleke & Gibbins, Bangkok), Shashi Nathan (Withers KhattarWong, Singapore), Sherbir Panag (Panag & Babu, New Delhi), Dawn Tan Ly-Ru (Ashurst ADTLaw, Singapore), and Jennifer (Eunkyung) Yoo (Peter & Kim, Seoul). Celebrating M&T’s 44th Anniversary with 'Learning @ Makarim'   On October 31, 2024, we celebrated M&T’s 44th anniversary with a legal workshop in collaboration with the national chapter of the Asian Law Students' Association (ALSA) National Chapter Indonesia). This event brought together ALSA members from across Indonesia, including Bali, Jember, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Lampung, Aceh, Depok, Surabaya, Bandung, Malang, and Padang, for a day of learning and hands-on experience at our office.   Our Senior Partner, Rahayu Ningsih Hoed, delivered an insightful session on "Asset Acquisition," sharing her decades of real-world expertise and non-textbook knowledge. Following this, participants engaged in a practical workshop led by Senior Associate Puspa Lestari, along with Associates Rininta Shafira, Novena Clementine Manullang, Lazuardy Thariq, Ivan Juan Alfreda, and Joshua Greenspan Banjarnahor. Divided into six groups, students had the opportunity to practice negotiation skills and agreement drafting in a collaborative setting.   The event was made possible through ALSA’s dedicated preparation, including months of planning and a thoughtful selection of participants from each chapter. Their efforts helped bring together a dynamic group of law students eager to learn and engage.   We extend our sincere thanks to each participant for their enthusiasm and hard work. Special recognition goes to Haydar from Universitas Padjadjaran (Bandung) and Nicholas Aurelius Karosta from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) (Yogyakarta), who stood out for their performance. The trip was a great opportunity for us to unwind, bond and create lasting memories outside of the office.   From exploring Bangkok’s rich cultural landmarks to savoring local culinary delights, we had the chance to experience the best of what the city has to offer. One of the highlights of our journey was a spectacular gala dinner on a cruise along the Chao Phraya River, from which we enjoyed breathtaking city views, delicious cuisine, and relaxed and amusing conversations.   This outing was not just about having fun; it was also about strengthening our sense of teamwork and camaraderie.
