From December 3rd to 7th, 2024, MTCRC successfully held the Korea Visit Program: Early Career Ocean Professional (ECOP) 2024. This program included notable participants, Gustami Ika from BRIN, awarded Best Participant in the MTCRC Korean Culture Class! 🎉 Over the five days, participants were included in an agenda to enhance their understanding of maritime trends, technologies, and industries, while also appreciating the rich cultural heritage of South Korea. Highlights included visits to iconic sites, including UN Peace Memorial Hall, PKNU Research Training Vessel, Busan Port, Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) facilities, the National Maritime Museum, Pusan National University (PNU), and also Gyeongbokgung palace. The program aimed to equip participants with valuable technical knowledge and cultural understanding to share and apply their expertise to support progress in global maritime innovation and cooperation.

On November 28, 2024, the Postgraduate Program in Marine Technology (TEK) from the Department of Marine Science and Technology, IPB University conducted an Integrated Field Trip to MTCRC Cirebon. The IPB team was warmly received by MTCRC Indonesia Director, Mrs. Ivonne M. Radjawane, and Head of the Training and Survey Department, Mr. Chungkyung JEON, at the MTCRC Cirebon Center. The visit aimed to explore the facilities, equipment, and laboratories available at the Cirebon Center. MTCRC researchers provided detailed explanations of their activities, state-of-the-art facilities, and equipment. The team also visited ARA Port at Pelindo to gain further insights into MTCRC’s collaborative operations. This field trip offered invaluable exposure to cutting-edge marine research, advanced technology applications, and collaborative opportunities—marking a significant step in supporting Indonesia's maritime advancement!

On November 26, 2024, the Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) organized its Awardee Gathering in Bandung. This event celebrated alumni achievements, fostered connections, and featured cultural performances such as the Buchaechum, Jaipong, and KPOP dances. It was attended by MTCRC alumni awardees and inspiring speakers. A key highlight was the inauguration of the MTCRC Ambassador, a role symbolizing innovation, collaboration, and excellence in marine research between Korea and Indonesia.

Korea-Indonesia MTCRC is pleased to have contributed to the Monitoring Survey for Seaweed in Lombok, part of the Large Scale Seaweed Farming initiative. In partnership with Kemenkopangan, Sea6 Energy Indonesia, UNRAM, BRIN, and KI, the survey effectively monitored ocean parameters using CTD WiMo to collect water samples for analysis in the MTCRC laboratory and assess biodiversity. Held from November 20-22, 2024, in Teluk Awang, East Lombok, the survey has played a key role in advancing the sustainable development of seaweed farming.

Korea-Indonesia MTCRC actively participated in the Training on Ecosystem-Based Approaches for Mangrove Conservation and Mangrove Surface Carbon Stock Mapping held from November 19-22. This initiative supports Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 goal, demonstrating our commitment to environmental sustainability. Organized by the Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the training in Yogyakarta was part of the ongoing partnership to enhance mangrove conservation and carbon stock mapping efforts.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony between Universitas Padjadjaran and the Korea-Indonesia MTCRC was successfully held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Unpad Executive Lounge, Bandung. The signing was carried out by Unpad Rector Prof. Arief S. Kartasasmita, Korean Director of MTCRC Dr. Park Hansan, and Indonesian Director of MTCRC Ivonne Radjawane, Ph.D. The event was also attended by notable figures such as the Chairman of the MTCRC Advisory Board, Dr. Safri Burhanuddin, Unpad Vice Rector for Human Resources and Governance, Prof. R. Widya Setiabudi Sumadinata, and Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Unpad, Prof. Yudi Nurul Ihsan. This milestone marks a strengthened commitment to advancing research and innovation in the marine and fisheries sectors.

Dr. PARK Hansan, the Director of Korea-Indonesia MTCRC, was honored to be one of the keynote speakers at the 5th International Conference on Fisheries and Marine Research (ICoFMR), hosted by Brawijaya University in Malang on November 14th, 2024. This hybrid event brought together experts to discuss advancements in marine science. Dr. PARK’s keynote presentation, titled 'Enhancing the Aquaculture Sector with Effective Coastal Management through International Cooperative Research Initiatives,' emphasized sustainable coastal strategies and highlighted MTCRC’s role in supporting Indonesia's marine and fisheries sectors as well fostering global research collaborations.

On November 14th, 2024, Korea-Indonesia MTCRC and University of Brawijaya officially signed an MoU, coinciding with the opening of the 5th International Conference Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Research (ICoFMR) Brawijaya University in Malang. The signing was carried out by the Rector of Brawijaya University who was represented by Dr. Sujarwo, S.P., M.P as the Director of Directorate of Student Affairs Brawijaya University alongside with Dr. Hansan Park and Mrs. Ivonne M. Radjawane, as Korea-Indonesia MTCRC Directors. Together, Korea-Indonesia MTCRC and Brawijaya University are committed to driving innovation, research, and meaningful initiatives for a brighter, shared future, especially in marine science and fisheries.

On November 13, MTCRC visited the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) at University of Brawijaya to introduce various activities conducted by the center. The visit was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Maftuch, M.Si., the Dean of FPIK. This was followed by insightful discussions with the Vice Deans, Asep Awaludin Prihanto, S.Pi., M.P., and Dr. Eng. Abu Bakar Sambah, S.Pi., M.T., as well as faculty members and students. Representing MTCRC, the delegation was led by the Directors, Dr. Hansan Park and Ivonne M. Radjwane, along with Pak Safri, the Chairman of the Advisory Board. The discussions explored potential future collaborations between MTCRC and FPIK, and concluded with a facility tour to identify further opportunities for joint programs and collaborative initiatives.
