Stopping plastic from going into the ocean is much more complicated than just cleaning our barriers daily. We have to hunt for trash upstream of our barriers and find the leakage spots along a river so that we can work on preventing more trash from entering them.

Our very own community manager, Luh Putu Anggita Baruna Putri, showing us how to have impact locally by improving recyclability rates and composting organic waste. Anggita recently moved away from the city, and just like millions of Indonesians, she now does not have access to waste management infrastructure. But she is showing what can be done and how to be more thoughtful about what you do with your waste at home.

Plastic pollution isn’t just a river and ocean problem—but it’s a food problem. Our team is tackling Indonesia's rice fields and irrigation channels to remove plastic waste before it can seep into the crops that feed us. Indonesia is one of the world's largest rice producers, and with plastic-filled irrigation channels, plastic waste is leaking into the rice field network.

Cleaning rivers is no easy task – so making sure that our teams stay safe in difficult river environments is of utmost importance. Our team recently completed a first aid training to ensure every river warrior is prepared for any challenge that comes their way. Because protecting nature starts with protecting each other.

Can rivers still be a reliable source of food for our future? Our teams on the ground cleaning rivers every day are seeing fewer and fewer species in our waterways. What will it take for us to turn this around and revive our rivers, and make sure that pollution is not the end of our rivers?

Meet Made Ari, a 21-year-old Sungai Warrior who inspires us with his dedication to environmental stewardship. Ari cycles to our Mangrove Sorting Facility every day and has been an instrumental team member in our South Bali operation, starting as a sorter to becoming the facility supervisor. This waterfall was once one of Bali’s hot spots, drawing locals and travelers alike. But over the years, it became forgotten, buried under layers of trash. Today, we brought it back to life! With our team and community support, we spent the day removing plastic from the area, restoring its natural beauty. Now, the Grembengan Waterfall can once again be enjoyed and a reminder of protecting our waterways 💧🌊

In 6 days we removed 25 tons of waste from a trash filled forest in Bali’s Baturiti mountains with our partners Marriott Bonvoy - Marriott Business Council Indonesia. This forest is located next to Lake Beratan, where a lot of waste unfortunately ends up.
