The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam then joined on 8 January 1984, Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN. The Korea-ASEAN Data and AI Training Programme for High-Performance Computing (HPC) was held from 10-14 February 2025 in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. This training represents a significant step towards enhancing digital capabilities and fostering collaboration in science and technology between ASEAN and South Korea. Endorsed by the Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) and supported by the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF), the training is part of the Building HPC Infrastructure and HPC Capacity for ASEAN Data Utilization project under the Korea-ASEAN Digital Flagship (KADIF) initiative. The programme aims to transfer HPC expertise to ASEAN Member States and strengthen their digital capabilities. Over four years, 160 professionals from ASEAN Member States will receive hands-on training from Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). The President of KISTI highlighted that this initiative will play a vital role in strengthening ASEAN-ROK cooperation in science and technology. #ASEAN #ROK #HPC #AI #DataScience #KISTI #TechCollaboration

ASEAN’s Regional Research Infrastructure (RRI) Strategy is getting in shape! A true game-changer for over 600 million people, paving the way for enhanced innovation, resilience, and inclusivity across the region. At the recent 4th ASEAN RRI Taskforce Workshop, supported by the EU, experts from all 10 ASEAN Member States came together to work on the finalisation of the RRI strategy. The Virtual Ministerial Meeting on the ATIGA Upgrade Negotiations was conducted on 7 February 2025 to discuss and provide guidance on key outstanding issues for the ATIGA Upgrade Trade Negotiating Committee (ATIGA Upgrade TNC) to conclude the negotiation in 2025. The Meeting reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the upgraded ATIGA would be a modern, comprehensive, forward-looking agreement, covering traditional and emerging elements relevant to business communities and more responsive to regional and global developments.

The 8th Meeting of ASEAN-Pakistan Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee (AP-JSCC), convened today at ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to discussed progress of ASEAN-Pakistan cooperation under the ASEAN-Pakistan Sectoral Dialogue Partnership: Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) (2024-2028) and explore possible areas for future collaboration between both sides. The 8th AP-JSCC Meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Socio-Cultural Community, San Lwin, and Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to ASEAN, Ameer Khurram Rathore, and attended by Members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and their respective delegations. Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to ASEAN, Natércia Coelho da Silva, attended as Observer.
