A collaboration of organisations and leaders, committed to achieving better gender balance, for better business outcomes

About us

The 30% Club is a collaboration of board Chairs and CEO's of medium and large organisations, committed to achieving better gender balance at leadership levels, for better business outcomes. Founded in the UK in 2010, the 30% Club operates in geographical chapters across the world with a specific focus on boards and c-suite teams. The 30% Club was established in Ireland in 2015 with the support of notable senior leaders and since February 2019 we are also very proud to count Mary McAleese and Martin McAleese as our joint patrons. Our membership now totals more than 260 Chairs & CEO’s of organisations representing the full breadth of Irish business and education. The daily workings of the group are managed by a volunteer panel representing a cross section of those organisations and we operate on a collaborative basis to generate support and drive change. The 30% Club believes that gender balance on boards and executive leadership not only encourages better leadership and governance, but further contributes to better all-round board performance, and ultimately increased corporate performance for companies, employees, stakeholders and the wider communities. The purpose of the 30% Club is to be useful to businesses in achieving their culture and inclusion ambitions, with a specific focus on senior gender balance; and focuses on raising awareness of the business benefits of gender balance; supporting businesses in their efforts to achieve balance; and working to improve the gender talent pipeline through mentoring programmes, business scholarships, board readiness and leadership development initiatives. An early start today for 30% Club Ireland with the 6.30am slot chatting with Joe Lynam on our newest research launched today, supported by Accenture UK & Ireland, marking International Men's Day, and all things gender balance. The impact of caring responsibilities, whether childcare, eldercare or personal wellbeing care, is the one topic that is consistent across all our supporter organisations for both men and women in their career. We hope this research will provide ideas and supports as we travel this journey together. The final research will launch next Feb at our chair/ceo annual event - but here's some early starters to consider * 72% of men in our survey now equally share, or take on more caring responsibilities with their partners * 58% of men under 40 see the importance of flexible working as a priority for their personal and family needs * We are still at an average of just one month's parental leave for 55% of men in our survey, but in the under 40's that figure is growing to three months and beyond * 36% of men see improvement in work/life balance since Covid, and almost 40% are seeing increases in productivity because of AI tools. Follow us at 30% Club Ireland to see where we go to next. thanks to the team at Newstalk, our great PR and research supporters Reputation Inc - Martyn Rosney and Susannah Kerr and Accenture Ireland for their tremendous support of the research, Paula Neary Michelle D. 🌟 Celebrating International Men’s Day with New Insights on Caregiving 🌟 Today, on International Men’s Day, we’re excited to share groundbreaking research from The 30% Club Ireland, supported by Accenture UK & Ireland, highlighting a significant shift in caregiving dynamics among men. 📊 Key Findings: 72% of men are now actively involved in caregiving at home. 35% of men handle most care responsibilities, while 37% share them equally with their partners. Younger generations are leading the change, with 48% of men aged 18-29 and 33% aged 30-40 taking on more family care. Gillian Harford, Country Executive of 30% Club Ireland, said: “The shift in caregiving dynamics among men, especially among younger generations, is incredibly encouraging. This progress reflects evolving societal norms and the benefits of flexible working arrangements.” Paula Neary, Country Chair of 30% Club Ireland and Senior Managing Director at Accenture, added: “These findings reveal significant progress as men increasingly embrace active roles in family caregiving, especially among younger generations who are benefiting from greater work-life balance.” 💡 Looking Ahead: As we prepare to release the full Care Report in the new year at our Chair and CEO event, these findings highlight the evolving role of men in caregiving and the need for continued support for flexible, inclusive work policies. Let’s continue to champion shared responsibilities and work-life balance for all. Together, we can create a more equitable future. #InternationalMensDay #Caregiving #WorkLifeBalance #30PercentClub #Accenture #Research #GenderEquality

"You don't come to the Mentoring Programme to be fed, instead you come to learn how to cook, with someone who has tried the recipe already" - our country executive Gillian Harford adds to the conversation below on the importance of the mentoring programme in building careers. She closes on the benefits of learning how to adjust to thrive, versus feeling the need to change to survive, as we navigate our journey. If this is something that you or upcoming talent in your organisation would benefit from, why not contact the Irish Management Institute today to learn more and join our winter 2024 programme #mentoringmatters

First time for gender pay gap reporting for your organisation ? This December sees the requirement for gender pay gap reporting extending to companies with more than 150 employees. How you communicate your calculations can be just as impactful as collating the data, and the reports are becoming a key communication tool for attracting, informing, and retaining employees. However, many organisations, particularly smaller organisations, may not have access to communications & marketing support to help in the preparation of the final published content. As part of our D&I toolkit, some of our 30% Club supporters have developed a 'how to guide' to give some practical advice, including a sample template, to help you get started on your first and subsequent reports. We hope you find it useful - check it out today ! https://lnkd.in/e4C6A_6M Ben Carty Christine Farrell Andrea Dermody Paula Neary Balance For Better Business Melanie Sheridan Mark Skinner

“It’s interesting to see progressive companies integrating caring policies into a ‘whole life’ approach, where not all leave needs are child-related, especially in early career, and there is a growing need for elder care support later in life.” Continuing the series of recent The Irish Times articles on EDI, our country executive Gillian Harford joins the conversation on the extra load carried by working women and the role of organisations in driving change. She adds "solving the problems women face in work is not a single-strand challenge with a single-strand solution that is within the control of business. We are navigating generational and societal shifts driven by factors such as childcare, caring responsibilities and the economic implications of higher labour participation rates among women – and this requires collaborative solutions across government and business,” Sarah H. Edel C. Paula Neary https://lnkd.in/e525He54

This morning, The Irish Times hosted a powerful discussion on equality, diversity, and inclusion in a multigenerational workplace, led by our Opinion Editor, Jennifer O'Connell. Our expert panels explored both the challenges and opportunities that arise at every stage of working life, from early careers and family planning to lifelong learning and retirement. Our first panel, featuring Dr Catherine Elliott O'Dare, Assistant Professor in Social Policy at Trinity College Dublin, and Gillian Harford, 30% Club Country Executive, who shared personal stories of career advancement, tackled what it truly means to work in a multigenerational environment and how we can maximise the benefits it brings. Our second panel brought together Denise White-Hughes, HR Operations Director at Lidl Ireland, and Geraldine Joanes, HR Director at Diageo Ireland, who gave insights into the unique challenges encountered at different stages of working life, and the balance between work and personal life. A big thank you to our sponsors, Lidl Ireland, MSD, and Trinity College Dublin for supporting this morning of discussion, debate, and learning, to our speakers for their invaluable insights, and to everyone who joined us today. #Equality #Diversity #Inclusion #EDI
