Today marks the first of #16Days of Activism against GBV. During each of these days, we will be spotlighting a different member. Today, we will offer an introduction to the Consortium, our members, and our work so far this year.
The Irish Consortium on Gender Based Violence (ICGBV) is composed of 14 member organisations: ActionAid Ireland, Aidlink, Christian Aid Ireland, Concern Worldwide, Irish Defence Forces, GOAL Global, Ifrah Foundation, Irish Aid, Irish Red Cross, Oxfam Ireland, Plan International Ireland, Self Help Africa, Trócaire and World Vision Ireland.
Established in 2005 as a response to reports of ongoing and systematic sexual violence against women and girls in the Darfur Region of #Sudan, we work together to increase knowledge and understanding of violence against women and girls, and to ensure high quality programming and policy responses, in both Humanitarian and Development settings. We also build leadership to support our shared vision of a world free from gender-based violence (GBV).
We know that we can never achieve our shared global goals of gender equality, sustainable peace and sustainable development without addressing GBV. We strive for a world where survivors are supported and protected, not isolated and stigmatised. We strive for a world beyond fear for women and girls, their families and communities.
Throughout 2024, the ICGBV has made significant progress in the realisation of our Strategic Plan (1).
We have published two pieces of incredibly important research. The first, "Tracking the Money towards Ending GBV" (2), was launched at #CSW68 with a large attendance. We went deeper, furthering the reach of the paper by influencing language on the need for increased and improved financing for GBV within the CSW68 Agreed Conclusions. The second, "From Survivor-Centred to Survivor-Led: Lessons from Promising Survivor-Led GBV Accountability Initiatives" (3), was launched today on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
In January, all the CEOs of the Consortium member organisations attended our annual meeting to reaffirm their commitment to ending GBV. That commitment is crucial as we look ahead at the scale of the GBV crisis globally. We look forward to welcoming them again soon in next year's meeting.
Stay tuned over the next #16Days, as we spotlight each members' contribution to the fight to #EndGBV.
