🌟 Exciting News from our EIIS portfolio company, Astatine Ltd! 🌞 Astatine, has been selected by international energy provider Engie to construct three new solar farms in Ireland next year! Located in Galway and Limerick, these projects will collectively deliver an 18-megawatt peak (MWp) capacity—enough to power 4,100 homes with clean, renewable energy. These solar farms, awarded under the Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS), mark a significant step towards Ireland’s decarbonisation goals. Construction begins in January, and commissioning is expected later in the year. Congratulations to Astatine and their partner, TLI Group, for leading the charge in advancing Ireland’s renewable energy future. At BVP, we’re proud to support companies like Astatine that are making a meaningful impact on communities and the environment. 🌍 #EIIS #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #ImpactInvesting #CleanEnergy #BVPInvestments https://lnkd.in/eXVv455v
🌞 Astatine Selected by Engie to Deliver its First Irish Onshore Renewable Projects 🌞 We’re thrilled to announce that Astatine has been mentioned in the RTE news for our ground-breaking collaboration with ENGIE. With the installation of three new solar farms in Galway and Limerick, it will provide clean energy to 4,100 homes. With construction set to kick off in early 2025, “these projects are a huge step in decarbonising local communities, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing fossil fuel dependence”, Tom Marren mentioned. Second post from the Enterprise Ireland (EI) Sustainable Enterprise Summit which I attended in my capacity as Chairman of Arigna Group which has the largest operating biochar plant in Europe and celebrating that our Harvest Flame sustainable solid fuel went on sale in Aldi Ireland last week. Sergiu A. of Lumcloon Energy highlighted the importance of large-scale battery solutions in decarbonisation. Liam Kearney of The Revive Group which refurbishes machines for the underground infrastructure, promotes sustainability by extending the life of existing machines. Their new factory in the Lisheen Bioeconomy Campus is completely off the grid in term of power and water. Aileen Cussen of EI pointed out that EI can support companies at all stages of growth. Derek Robertson of Subsea Micropiles, engineered offshore anchors with lower environmental impact, said the major challenge they face is growth funding. Keith Whiriskey of EI, gave a perspective on EI’s strategy, the key words being Assess, Measure, Plan, Invest, and Deliver. Tom Marren of Astatine Ltd, renewable heat, power and storage, said the key to success was to offer turnkey solutions with low-cost funding from the EIB. Helen O'Sullivan of Flex Power Solutions, advocated the merits of switching between an old boiler and a new eboiler to maintain flexibility. Alan Keogh of CoolPlanet, helping organisations decarbonise while saving money, noted that companies that can flex energy demand can take advantage of negative energy pricing and initial savings must be sustained. John Hanley of FDT part of the NIRAS group, specialist engineering consultancy, focussed on the importance of optimising the process to save money and carbon. Richard Morrison of Optien Ltd, energy and carbon management specialists, said that carbon offsets have no place in the discussion, and we have to say when we can reduce emissions no further. Aoife Connaughton of Deloitte, noted that the recent Draghi report called for a 25% reduction in regulations, and this will mean a slowing up of new regulations. Also, many SME’s, are in the supply chains of larger companies who will expect compliance with the similar voluntary code for SME’s. On the Rising to the Sustainability Challenge Panel, Kathleen O'Regan of EI, listed the extensive supports provided by EI to all types of business. Enda Buckley of Carbery Group, said they had zero waste in their manufacturing process right down to the organic sludge that is spread on the land. He also highlighted the Farm Zero C project. Lorna McAdoo of Version 1, organisation transformation consultancy, said that the focus should be on having an impact rather than Net Zero and that 450 of their 3,500 employees volunteer for ESG projects. Sinead Flynn of Portwest manufacturer of workwear, safety wear and PPE, said that their sustainability journey was a major data collection exercise, and the results allowed it to compete in new sectors.
