This week, coffee prices have spiked to unprecedented levels at $4.40 per pound (compared to $1.88 per pound on the same date in 2024), creating significant challenges for everyone in the coffee supply chain, from farmers to coffee shop operators. At Bewley’s, we understand the strain this places on our customers. Farmers are facing soaring costs for fertilisers, wages, and other essential inputs—expenses they must cover long before they realise their harvest or can sell their coffee. The volatility of the market makes it even harder for them to plan ahead, secure loans, and invest in their farms. As prices continue to fluctuate, the long-term sustainability of coffee production is at risk. Farmers need stability to invest in their crops, maintain quality, and support their communities. Without this, the supply of coffee could be severely impacted, affecting businesses and consumers alike. If these high price levels persist, the cost of a cup of coffee will inevitably rise. Now more than ever, it’s important to support a sustainable and resilient coffee supply chain. By working closely with farming communities, ensuring fair compensation, and investing in long-term partnerships, we can help secure the future of coffee production.
