Another Year Over Sometimes at this time of year we are so busy doing the multitude of last-minute jobs that we don’t take stock of all we have achieved during the year. For CD Environmental this was a year of milestone growth, both in staff and customers. During 2024 we had several new staff joining our team – we have hired and embedded to our family a really good crew. Anybody who runs their own business will tell you the real win is having good people, and we are thankful to have assembled and retained a top-class team. Good people do good work allowing us to maintain our high delivery standards as we grow. On the customer side, 2024 was a year where we continued to offer a wider range of our services to our existing client base AND acquire new commercial and industrial clients primarily through referrals. Ireland is booming, and as word grows about our services and delivery standards, our nationwide business grows too. Additionally, our key clients continue to aid this expansion by extending our relationships and bringing us to work on their sites in the UK. Back at base we continue to invest in the business, with new state of the art trucks to keep pace with this growth, and our sustainability journey key investments in our future. Technology is a key enabler in this business and CD Environmental is proud to be at the forefront with many new additions in 2024. To keep pace with our customer growth, and safety focus, we have made major investment in: - 3 New high spec multi-function trucks - New camera van with new CCTV mainline crawler - New CCTV equipment for various access points, with high specification technology testing and reporting capabilities - New push cameras - 360-degree Camera systems in all our vehicles enhancing our ‘safety first’ culture - Office Solar Panels installed in keeping with our sustainability ethos - Paperless office, with new technology and upgraded tablets for all operatives Meanwhile Alan and the team, continue to reach outside Ireland attending shows and conferences in Sweden, Germany and UK seeking improvements in the fast-growing area of sustainability. With this in mind we have continued to build our forestry site to offset our carbon footprint, engaged an external environmental company to look at our overall business, and reengineering our trucks to make them as efficient as possible into the future. As Tesco says ‘every little helps’! And lastly, but by no means least – 2024 was the year where Liam McCarty came back to Clare. While we can take no credit for that result, we certainly enjoyed the fantastic journey. Fingers crossed for a repeat in 2025! One of the most talked about spaces in Ennis, Co Clare is Our Lady's Hospital - but what does this have to do with us? Let's start with some background for our history enthusiasts...... The hospital, which was designed by William Fogerty opened as the Ennis Asylum in 1868. It became Ennis Mental Hospital in the 1920s and went on to become Our Lady's Hospital in the 1950s. After the introduction of deinstitutionalisation in the late 1980s the hospital went into a period of decline and closed in March 2002. The site, which has changed hands several times since the hospital closed, was acquired by a new developer recently. 'While the new owner has not yet been revealed, the site has been earmarked for the development of a retirement village involving 200 housing units, primary care and a community', according to The Clare Champion, Nov 14, 2024. CD Environmental recently completed a detailed job, using our CCTV technologies of assessing & reporting on the condition of drains and associated waterworks for future development. Investing in Our people Education and upskilling is a crucial component of growing our business, one that can get lost in the 'busyness' of the day to day roles. This recent course, which some of our team attended over the course of a few days, is just one example. This course is for staff who are involved with the issue, purchasing and receiving back in of portable lifting equipment and involved in carrying out planned maintenance and inspection of in-use portable lifting equipment, included a practical exam at the end, earning a Certificate from Lloyds British International for 3 years.
