🌐 This Week in Cybersecurity This week, we selected three major cybersecurity stories highlighting the evolving threat landscape. These cases show how attackers continue to adapt, from rising incidents in the UK to a high-profile ransomware attack and a sophisticated Android Trojan. To help your organisation stay resilient, we have provided actionable tips to strengthen defences. 🔒 Cybersecurity Incidents on the Rise in the UK The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) reported a 16% increase in cybersecurity incidents this year. Data exfiltration and ransomware are the most common attack types. AI is amplifying the speed and impact of these threats, with the academic sector being the hardest hit, followed by manufacturing and IT. (Source: [NCSC Annual Review] CISO Tip: Deploy threat detection tools to identify and mitigate precursor malware before ransomware is executed. 🛡️ Deloitte Breach – 1TB of Data Allegedly Stolen by Brain Cipher Group The ransomware group Brain Cipher claims to have breached Deloitte UK, exfiltrating over 1 terabyte of data. The group alleges that weak security protocols allowed access to sensitive client data. Deloitte has not yet confirmed the breach. (Source: [Cybersecurity News]) CISO Tip: Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and update security controls to prevent advanced persistent threats. 📱 New Android Trojan 'DroidBot' Targets Banks and Crypto Exchanges The DroidBot malware targets 77 financial organisations, including in the UK, using hidden VNC, keylogging, and Android accessibility services. Offered as malware-as-a-service (MaaS), it allows affiliates to customise attacks via a monthly subscription. (Source: [The Hacker News]) CISO Tip: Strengthen mobile device management (MDM) policies and ensure apps come only from trusted sources. #CommSec #NewsRoundUp #Cybersecurity #cybertips #ThreatProtection
