Davie Philip delivers an inspiring message on the power of community-led action in tackling the #climate crisis, reinforcing a fundamental truth — when communities come together, real change happens. Through #philanthropy and strategic partnerships, we Community Foundation Ireland are empowering communities to lead the way in climate action, biodiversity protection, and sustainable living. We truly believe that funding grassroots initiatives and supporting collaborative networks are critical in creating long-term, meaningful impact. To tackle the issue of climate crisis, the solutions must be local, inclusive, and community-driven. One of our thematic areas under our strategy is #SustainableFutures, where we are committed to advancing sustainability efforts and fostering collaboration for a better, greener future. It's about creating stronger partnerships, sharing knowledge, and taking actionable steps to protect our planet. In our role as a convener, bringing key voices from a diverse range of organisations working in the climate and sustainability space for an impactful community consultation in Castlebar, Mayo. This gathering is all about understanding the needs of these groups and exploring how we, as a Foundation, can leverage philanthropy and best support their crucial work. Money is the answer to poverty," says Alan Barrett of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI). Based on research, he explains that the key to solving poverty lies in financial support, drawing example from the success of increasing pensions to improve the lives of older people. One of our focus areas and thematic priorities at Community Foundation Ireland is #EmpoweringGenerations, and one of the work in that area is working to combat child poverty with our partners. Through our network as a philanthropic hub, we are gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges that many face, and how targeted interventions like financial support can drive real change. An important question from our joint event #InvestmentforGenerations with the Children's Rights Alliance is 'Should we continue to rely on "free money" to address child poverty?
