Minister Eamon Ryan presented our Secretary General Oonagh Buckley with the Smarter Travel Mark plaque. Oonagh accepted the Award on behalf of the Department and recognised the role of the Green Team in leading on this initiative. Developed by the National Transport Authority, the Smarter Travel Mark is one of the 35 Pathfinder Projects that Minister Ryan launched to recognise Public sector organisations who actively support and encourage a greater use of sustainable travel amongst staff and visitors. The Smarter Travel Mark is a three-tier certification behavioural change program aimed at reducing single occupant car use and promoting more physical activity into staff commuting. Organisations who have introduced workplace travel plans as part of the program have seen a reduction in single occupant car use by 10% to 24%. Benefits also include less parking pressure and an increase in staff wellbeing.
