The Irish Government Economic & Evaluation Service (IGEES) held its Annual Conference, on Wednesday 27th of November at the Clayton Hotel 🏨 . With the aim of furthering an integrated cross-government service to support better policy formulation and implementation in the civil service through economic analysis and evaluation. Some of the topics covered include: -       Ireland’s Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy ‘Powering Prosperity’ -       Defence Forces, the Naval Service, and Irish Public Finances ⚓ -       Security Environment Assessment -       An Analysis of Housing Affordability and Market Access 🏘️ -       Review of the Basic Income for the Arts for the Arts 🎭 -       Spending Review of Specialist Disability Services in Ireland -       Distributional Analysis of Tax & Welfare measures in Budget 2025 The IGEES is fully integrated into the civil service, and the Annual Conference is one of the highlights in the year for Department of Public Expenditure NDP Delivery & Reform of Public Expenditure and Reform. Last Thursday Paschal Donohoe launched The Clontarf to City Centre (C2CC) Active Travel Project in Fairview Park. The C2CC scheme is a good example of DPENDR’s support for infrastructure in Ireland, inclusive, high quality and integrated and one that meets the needs and improves the quality of life of the people of Ireland. The project is a joint effort comprising; Dublin City Council, the National Transport Authority, the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications and the Department of Public Expenditure NDP Delivery & Reform. In addition, the project also included: -       8km of upgraded pedestrian walkways 🚶 -       6.8km of new cycle lanes 🚴♀️ -       5.4km of upgraded bus lanes 🚌 -       Two new pedestrian crossings connecting Fairview Village to the park -       Replacing 6.5km of century-old water mains 🌊 -       A 26km network of utilities for traffic, public lighting and ESB -       Sustainable Urban Drainage (SUDS) to mitigate against flooding 🌦️ -       280 new Public Lighting Columns with energy efficient LED fittings -       8 new community plazas along the streetscape -       100 trees planted and 50 new planted areas with over 4,600 shrubs and hedges 🌳 The scheme is evidence of what can be achieved when multiple departments and organisations work together. The Office of Government Procurement Professional Practice team has successfully concluded a series of 👩🎓 Legal Guidance Masterclasses delivered by the Public Procurement Law Section of the Chief State Solicitor’s Office ⚖️, for the procurement teams in the OGP that began a year ago. Each month focused on important legal aspects of the public procurement lifecycle, across pre-award, evaluation, contract formation, award and post award stages. The series was an extremely valuable approach to keeping our procurement practitioners updated on recent public procurement Case Law and/or the Legal Framework of the Public Procurement regime under which we operate. Many thanks to the Chief State Solicitor’s Office for their continued support with our procurement professionals and to all that attended and worked to make them possible 👏.

Today Minister Paschal Donohoe published the Prospects 2024/2025 report which highlights 50 projects that make up Project Ireland 2040. This report aims to provide further visibility on Ireland’s priority infrastructure over the coming years, facilitating firms to plan commercial bids for these major infrastructure projects.  “I’m very pleased to welcome the publication of Prospects 2024/2025. Prospects sets out a clear pipeline for 50 individual projects that make up Project Ireland 2040. We need the construction industry, in Ireland, the EU and internationally, to consider the role that they can play in delivering the projects outlined in Prospects. €77m (£65m) of PEACEPLUS funding has been awarded to transform six community facilities and public spaces in Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland. Among the exciting and wide-ranging new cross-community initiatives to receive funding are the conversion of a former military barracks site into a sport, wellbeing and shared learning centre; the creation of a huge ‘Air Dome’ indoor arena in the North-West; and a significant investment at a North Belfast interface to enhance shared space and connectivity between local communities. Six projects were successful in their bids for investment through PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) - European Funding). Thousands of people are expected to benefit from the new facilities when completed and it is hoped they will bring people together, promote better understanding and trust, and provide communities with improved services and infrastructure. North West Europe is an EU Transnational Programme involving 7 countries: Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France and Switzerland. Total budget of €310 million over the programme period. The North West Europe Annual Event is taking place in Croke Park with 400 Registered Delegates. #NWE2024  

In his #Budget2025 speech on 1 October, Paschal Donohoe announced that, to provide further support to families raising children, two double payments of Child Benefit would be made to all qualifying households in November and December.
