Ecocem is pleased to partner with Engineers Ireland to deliver an educational online webinar tomorrow, Tuesday 19 November 2024. The webinar is entitled, ‘Understanding the benefits of Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag (GGBS) in lowering carbon emissions in concrete, updated for reference to Ireland’s new public procurement guidelines for concrete’. This is a free webinar in which Ecocem Ireland will present a comprehensive technical seminar including the benefits, applications, and specification of GGBS, a sustainable and high-performance, low carbon cement replacement. The webinar counts for one CPD award hour. The webinar will be delivered by John Reddy, Director of Concrete Technology for Ecocem Group, and Susan McGarry, Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability at Ecocem Group. Ecocem is grateful to Engineers Ireland and its Structures and Construction Division for hosting the event. It was great to welcome Dr. Suhaib Salawdeh, of Atlantic Technological University, to the team at Ecocem’s Centre of Excellence for Research & Innovation in Champlan, Paris this week. Earlier this year, Ecocem was named as an Industry Partner of the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Industry RD&I Fellowship. As part of this partnership, Suhaib is conducting research into optimising Ecocem’s breakthrough ACT technology for Irish concrete using Irish materials. Collaboration is key to climate action and this partnership strengthens the bonds between academia and industry with the shared goal of tackling concrete’s carbon-intensive problem. #LowCarbonCement #LowCarbonConcrete #Decarbonisation #AvoidedEmissions #Sustainability #ClimateAction #ClimateSolutions #DecarbonisingConstruction #SustainableConstruction

Ecocem is pleased to announce it will partner with TITAN Cement Group, a leading international business in the building and infrastructure materials industry, for the development of new low-carbon cements in Europe. The companies aim to co-develop and deploy a version of ACT, Ecocem’s scalable low-carbon cement technology. This new product can reduce the carbon footprint of cement by up to 70% while meeting materials performance targets. Donal O’Riain, Founder and Group Managing Director of Ecocem, said: “This partnership will be a major step forward for Ecocem. Out ACT technology reduces emissions by using cement with much greater efficiency and without a significant green premium. We are delighted to be working with TITAN, who – like us – are committed to a rapid and sustainable reduction of carbon emissions from cement manufacture. This partnership has the potential to accelerate the use of SCMs with ACT technology and open a new global potential for rapid and low-cost decarbonisation of the cement industry.” The full announcement is available here: https://lnkd.in/dQ5Ez_xR #FutureOfCement #LowCarbonCement #Decarbonise #ClimateAction #Sustainability #AvoidedEmissions

The latest Emissions’ Gap Report 2024 from UNEP (UN Environment Programme) highlights the role existing and affordable technologies can play to accelerate decarbonisation. For the buildings and construction sector, which accounts for 37% of global emissions, there is the challenge of how to decarbonise while demand for cement and concrete rises across the globe. Cement is one of the largest contributors to the construction sector’s emissions, accounting for almost 8% of global CO2 alone. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) Agency, there needs to be an annual 3% reduction in the cement industry’s emissions to align with the 2050 Net Zero scenario. In response, Ecocem Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability, Susan McGarry outlines how low carbon cements hold the key to lowering embodied carbon in construction and the built environment now and into the future. In response to the warning in today’s Annual Review 2024 by Climate Change Advisory Council Ireland (CCAC) that the country is at risk of multibillion euro fines for exceeding its carbon budget to 2030, Ecocem recognises that the construction industry must play its part in reducing carbon emissions. At Ecocem, we are proud to offer low-carbon cement solutions that are already supporting the decarbonisation of a highly carbon-intensive industry. By driving innovation in sustainable building materials, we are committed to Ireland’s green transition and to developing a more sustainable future. The introduction from 1 September 2024 of new State procurement guidelines for all public bodies, including a minimum 30% clinker substitution, was a much welcomed step in the right direction towards a greater decarbonisation of cement, which accounts for 5% of Ireland’s annual emissions. Read the full CCAC review here: https://lnkd.in/d-UFam5G For more information on how Ecocem can help you meet these carbon targets, visit our website: www.ecocemglobal.com. #DecarbonisingConstruction #Concrete #AvoidedEmissions #ClimateActionPlan #FutureofCement #Sustainability

Ecocem is delighted to have partnered with Repak to sponsor research into using recycled glass in a novel cementitious binder to lower carbon emissions from concrete. The findings of the research will be presented by Professor Mark Richardson at an online webinar hosted by Engineers Ireland on Monday, 21 October 2024. An international peer review concluded that the binder meets the Irish concrete standard I.S. EN 206, with three constraints: controlling particle size, limiting recycled glass proportion and restricting its use under carbonation exposure. The research concluded that existing standards should be updated to adopt this binder, which would be important for meeting carbon emission targets.
