Hey LinkedIn! It’s been a while, but I’m back 🤓 The past few months have been a whirlwind of gratitude, growth, & deep reflection for me. As I sit through the exhaustion of travel and long work hours, I find myself overwhelmed with appreciation for the incredible support system around me—my family, friends, colleagues, & doctors, who consistently lift me up during this challenging year. Though many see traveling for work as glamorous, the reality is far from it—planes, trains, automobiles, hotels, conference rooms & time spent away from home. Yet, as I look at photos from the number of months, I realise that it’s the people I’ve met along the way who truly make these experiences unforgettable. From colleagues who have become lifelong friends to global partners united by a shared cause, I’m lucky to be surrounded by a tribe of passionate individuals committed to making a difference, which is why myself and the ECPO team go above & beyond! Some of the most impactful moments in the past few months include speaking at the G7 Ministers for Health event in Rome. I advocated for healthcare reform & action for people with obesity, in my own words with our VP Diana beside me. While my directness may not have been appreciated by many Minsters, I made it clear that we need change, especially for future generations. In Texas, at Obesity Week, I had the chance to collaborate with brilliant colleagues like Susie and Jason to brainstorm & share ideas on shifting healthcare & policy narratives. Being surrounded by such passionate global leaders reaffirmed my belief in the importance of collective action. Throughout the travel, the little moments of joy stood out, like sharing laughter with Susie while navigating the chaos of airports, or finding therapeutic comfort in the "Bark Park" at Obesity Week. It was a place to recharge my spirit through the unconditional love of dogs. The time spent with colleagues & friends over long dinners, as some fab live music after intense work days, helped maintain the balance between hard work & self-care. I’m so grateful for the kindness of colleagues & friends like Tony & Diana, who made every part of our trip memorable. From navigating food shopping challenges to sharing laughter in unexpected moments! To people who are driving for towards the same mission that I spent time with - Ian, Joe, Nicole, Lisa, Vinay, Johanna, Volkan, Jen, Stuart, Sanjeev, James, Morgan, Sheree & so many more! Thank you for inspiring our team. Despite the challenges, we continue to push forward with passion & a shared purpose. So here’s to our team, the love, the laughter, & the relentless drive to change the world for the better. I may be tired, but I’m more determined than ever... And I’m ready for the next chapter of this journey! #OW2024 #obesity Susie Birney Ian Patton Joe Nadglowski Lisa Schaffer Volkan Demirhan Yumuk Jason Halford Vinay Chopra Johanna Ralston Sheree Bryant Morgan Salmon. In June 2024, the La Mattina Dopo Association brought together patients and healthcare professionals in Parma, Italy, for an engaging two-day event focused on obesity and its treatments. The gathering, attended by 140 patients and 15 healthcare professionals, created a collaborative environment where participants openly discussed experiences, challenges, and insights regarding obesity care. The event offered a unique format, with discussion tables that encouraged patients and professionals to share perspectives on treatment options and support systems. Eligio Linoci from La Mattina Dopo said "The association's approach fostered effective, meaningful exchanges, making the event not only informative but also uplifting for all involved. Reflecting on the experience, many described it as exhilarating, with participants gaining valuable knowledge and forming connections that strengthen the obesity care community." Well done to everyone involved. #AddressingObesityTogether
