Best Use of Technology: For our Smart Meter Upgrade program, with over 1.85 million smart meters installed, transforms how electricity is measured and managed; removes the need for estimated customer bills and provides customers with detailed information about their electricity usage. Smart meters are key to the delivery of a digitally enabled electricity network, which will accommodate even higher levels of renewable energy and support the electrification of transport and heating. Digital Impact in CX: For the ESB Networks Online Account, empowering all electricity customers with online personalised services such as personalised energy usage information, power outage information and notifications, connection/alteration services and more. With more than 150k customers using the online services regularly, this award highlights the ease of use and the overall seamless user experience that has been delivered. A subsidiary within ESB Group, we are ESB Networks. We are the licensed operators of the electricity distribution system in the Republic of Ireland, this includes all distribution stations, overhead electricity lines, poles and underground cables. We are responsible for building, operating and maintaining these to serve all 2.3 million electricity customers across the country safely and efficiently. We facilitate the competitive electricity market. As meter operator, we install, maintain and read the meters of all electricity customers and provide this information to suppliers. We have invested over six billion euro in the electricity network over the last 10 years to ensure that it is reliable and enables communities and businesses in Ireland to grow and develop. Our recent stakeholder event ‘Innovation for Net Zero’ highlighted the importance of our strategic consultation process, which was reflected in key discussions and presentations. Thought leaders including Mark McGranaghan, Vice President of Technology Innovation, from EPRI spoke about ‘Innovation to Meet Grid Modernisation Challenges’, while Pablo Arboleya, Plexigrid; Claire Hannon, Advanced Infrastructure and Taco Engelaar, Neara presented on how collaboration with start-ups and small businesses brings innovation and creativity to the challenges of large Distribution Systems like ESB Networks. In the afternoon session, Dan Clarke, ENA and Rhys Thomas, Threepwood presented on registering and connecting Low Carbon Technologies, followed by presentations from a range of electricity industry experts. pat eccles Head of DMSO, ESB Networks spoke on ‘The Network of the Future”. Dr. Ciarán Seoighe, Deputy CEO, Research Ireland, covered the subject ‘From Research to Pilots & Start-ups’ highlighting the training and new innovations that research provides. John Walsh and Cathal Lally, both from ESB’s Emerging Technology team, co-presented on the topic ‘Technology Radar, Looking to the Future’. ESB Networks’, Strategy, Innovation & Electrification team hosted a range of stakeholders including industry, governmental departments, policy makers and academics this week to discuss the topic of ‘Innovation for Net Zero’, as part of our broader strategic consultation process to deliver the electricity network for Ireland’s clean electric future. Delegates were welcomed by Nicholas Tarrant, Managing Director, ESB Networks followed by a keynote address from Dr Lollie Mancey , UCD on the topic of ‘Engaging communities in the Innovation challenge’. The host of the event, journalist Jess Kelly, interviewed an expert panel of stakeholders which included, John Finnegan, Principal Officer, DECC; Jacinta Ryan, Transformation Director, ESB Networks, Declan Meally, Director of Business, SEAI and Aoife OGrady, Head of ZEVI on the topic of collaboration to deliver innovation. Teams from ESB Networks attended Wind Energy Ireland’s annual trade show in the RDS today, Wednesday, November 6th. ESB Networks has announced a joint innovation project with spatial analytics and software company Advanced Infrastructure designed to improve and enhance the connection application experience for customers. The pilot project seeks to provide local authorities, electric vehicle charge-point developers and other medium voltage demand customers with an online screening tool to self-assess their demand connection requirements against available network capacity, estimated connection timeline and cost information, thereby enabling them to refine their connection requirements in advance of any formal connection applications.
