Vice President, Head of Enterprise & Digital Commerce, EMEA at Fiserv.

This time last week the inaugural Fintech Ireland Summit was well underway! It was a brilliant event with some many great learnings, trend insights, catchups with industry colleagues and new connections. Thanks to Peter Oakes, Fintech Ireland, Investnet and all the sponsors for a really thought-provoking event showcasing the growth and opportunity for indigenous and international fintech in Ireland but also the challenges and constraints that need to be addressed to prevent stagnation and decline. Peter Oakes launched the event with an overview of fintech ireland covering the landscape, the growth in regulated fintechs, regtech & digital assets in particular. Eric Jorgensen shared Zendesk insights exploring how AI technology is reshaping how they support Fintech. I did a presentation on the evolution of Money and Payments from Fiserv’s perspective and then I had the pleasure of speaking on a panel on the topic moderated by Garrett Cassidy with Maeve McMahon Susan O’Neill and Eric Jorgensen where we delved into instant payments, cross border payments including B2B, cryptocurrencies, tokenisation and digital assets. Niamh Vianney Muldoon did a very insightful fireside chat on cybersecurity & Generative AI in Fintech. Mai Santamaria FCA presented her views on Scaling and Sustainable Growth and then chaired a panel on the same topic with Chris Hanlon, Colin Canny, Mary O'Neill & Feargal Brady, highlighting Ireland’s success as a fintech hub. It also highlighted how critical availability of housing is to the ability to recruit and how this is currently not working, making it very difficult for companies to scale. Nick Maybin gave a fascinating insight into Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) which are not delivering on expectations and then Stablecoins which are cryptocurrencies pegged to fiat currencies or gold which emerged as a key theme of the conference and the exciting future of this space. Nick showed that Heimir Hallgrímsson isn’t the only one to have a successful career in a new field post dentistry. This was followed by a panel discussion on Digital Assets chaired by Peter Oakes with John Cronin, Amor Sexton & Nick Maybin where the exciting futures of blockchain and stablecoins were brought to the fore. We had a broad discussion on Ireland as a Fintech Hub with Suzanne Feeney, Ruth Cosgrave, Darragh Deady Billy Hanley and the importance of education. Sharon Donnery, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland then shared her vision on governance and innovation in regulated firms. The startup showcases by James Hannigan and Veronica Breene were excellent we wish them well as they scale! The event concluded with a fireside chat with Peter Oakes and Jamie Heaslip which delved into the Stripe acquisition of the Stablecoin platfofrm Bridge last month and the Irish startup ecosystem and the recent closure of the NDRC. A fantastic day to be a part of!

  • It is not just #bitcoin and #altcoins rocketing ahead in Q4 2024. It is also pretty hot in the world of registered #virtualasset service providers (VASP) in Ireland. In the last few weeks, and especially in the last few days, six (6) firms have obtained registration as a VASP with the Central Bank of Ireland. At last week's #FintechIrelandSummit24 we said to the 210 attendees to watch the #digitalassets space carefully as we approach year-end because registrations will boom. And we were right. Thanks to the Digital Assets Panel of Nick Maybin, Amor Sexton and John Cronin for their insights on that Panel. [If you are a VASP or intending to become a CASP in Ireland, note that we are hosting an #MiCAR KFD Industry Roundtable on Thursday 12th December 20024 in the morning. We mentioned this last week at the Summit. Details here https://lnkd.in/eGfDYV3C] Fintech Ireland and MiCA Ready welcome the following six (6) VASPs to Version 9 of the Ireland VASP Map. * CoinJar (Coinjar Europe Limited) * Figure Markets (Figure Markets Ireland Ltd) * Legend Trading (Legend Financial Ireland Limited) * HashKey Group (HashKey Europe Limited) * Fidelity Digital Assets Ireland Ltd * StoneX Group Inc. • Robert Walters has released its 2025 Salary Survey. Those at the Fintech Ireland Summit last week (210 people) would have heard Suzanne Feeney's insights on the Panel 'Ireland as a Fintech Hub'. In her forward to the Survey Suzanne says: "Hiring in 2024 offered up a mixed bag, but the Irish recruitment landscape showcased its strength. Over 70 elections occurred globally, and geopolitical conflict persisted. The Irish economy witnessed growth despite global instability – with low unemployment and high demand. The current hiring landscape is one characterised by critical skills and talent gaps – particularly within tech, finance, and engineering. Considering that, salary growth remains healthy with a high level of competition in the market. 2024 signified a tug-of-war develop between employers who tightened their budgets and professionals who expected higher salaries to encourage them to make a move". A big thank you to Suzanne arranging Robert Walter's sponsoring of last week's event too. Linked to Survey here - https://lnkd.in/dfZqzgNG Investnet Robbie Whelan David Neville

Here it is - the Central Bank of Ireland's hashtag #MiCAR Key Facts Document. It is hot of the press and having read through it we will point out some of the more interesting and significant aspects of the process and our initial thoughts on the authorisation process at the Fintech Ireland Summit this Thursday 28th November 2024 in Dublin. Separately Fintech Ireland and MiCA Ready/CompliReg will host a Fintech Ireland / #MiCAReady Industry Roundtable next week for VASPs already registered in Ireland/elsewhere and others yet to start a registration / CASP authorisation journey.
