☀ On the last day of #EUh2Week, learn about our novel approach to mimic photosynthesis for #hydrogen production. Drawing inspiration from the natural efficiency of photosynthesis, the FreeHydroCells project aims to absorb solar energy for hydrogen production by utilising submerged, multi-junction thin-film semiconductors. 🔬 https://lnkd.in/eNG66DTv Our system is designed to self-sustain photoelectrochemical water-splitting reactions, storing solar energy in the bonds of molecular hydrogen—a clean and efficient fuel source. ⚡ By combining a high-efficiency solar absorption strategy with an environmentally benign process, we're advancing a green solution that has both scientific significance and practical potential. Highlights of our alternative to #fossilfuels: ✅ Efficient ♻ Self-driven 💲 Low cost #FreeHydroCells #SustainableEnergy #HydrogenInnovation #EuropeanHydrogenWeek

The pursuit of sustainable energy alternatives—wind, wave, solar—has unveiled significant barriers that limit their ability to replace fossil fuels on a large scale. Challenges such as low conversion efficiency, high production and maintenance costs, limited durability, complex storage needs, and concerns over material sustainability persist.🌎 Addressing these challenges is crucial to enabling green energy systems that are both practical and financially viable. As we gather insights during European Hydrogen Week, we recognise that overcoming these bottlenecks is the essential next step to making green energy solutions a competitive reality. 🎯 Therefore, FreeHydroCells is creating a PEC cell-to-system pathway powered by sunlight-driven water splitting! 🌟 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eNG66DTv #EuropeanHydrogenWeek #GreenEnergy #SustainableInnovation #EUH2Week

Our objective at FreeHydroCells is to develop a PEC (photoelectrochemical) system capable of reaching TRL 4 proof-of-concept, fulfilling the high-risk, high-reward goals set for the project. 🎯 ⚙ This pathway involves significant technical challenges, but we are encouraged by the progress we’ve made across each key area. Our recent advancements signal a feasible solution pathway and highlight the innovative approaches that have enabled us to move forward. While success is not guaranteed, each step strengthens our position to continue advancing toward a clean energy breakthrough. 💡 👉 Read our research here: https://lnkd.in/eWYWue6v #FreeHydroCells #HydrogenInnovation #CleanEnergy #EuropeanHydrogenWeek #EUH2Week

Our consortium’s vision for transformative energy is best captured in this phrase: “Entirely green, very lean, broadly mean—toward a novel energy dream.” 🤝 🎯 We’re committed to a fully sustainable energy solution that’s pollutant-free, highly efficient, low-cost, and stable. By advancing these principles, we aim to challenge the dominance of pollutant-heavy energy systems with a groundbreaking alternative that prioritises environmental and economic sustainability. As we continue our work, we look forward to a future where clean energy leads the way. 🍃 #FreeHydroCells #SustainableEnergy #HydrogenInnovation #EuropeanHydrogenWeek #EUH2Week
