The evolution of roles within Public Health Nursing and community nursing is making a difference in the lives of patients. Clodagh Brackett is a Student Public Health Nurse based in Blackrock in Cork city and is attending UCC. Clodagh gained experience of working in both the hospital environment and in the community while completing a Graduate Nurse Rotation Programme. “There’s a great variety of work in the community and you get lots of support from PHNs and from RGN colleagues who are always willing to help. I enjoy the autonomy in the job. You have your own caseload and there is continuity of care for the patients.” If you would like to work in one of our Community Nursing Teams register at https://careerhub.hse.ie for weekly job alerts.

Sustainable procurement.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Replace disposable items like single use plastic cups and cutlery, with reusable products.

Responsibility starts with all of us - When requesting supplies, take into account the necessity, packaging and environmental impact.

Think about equipment you use in work and potential for reducing use or reusing.

Share ideas for more sustainable products with your management team.

Think before you buy, for example, for lunch perhaps choose plant-based and items with less packaging.

The new third module, called Respond, focuses on providing healthcare staff with the appropriate skills to identify, respond and support victims of Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. This module builds on the learnings of module 1 – ‘Awareness’ and Module 2 – ‘Recognise’ and will support staff on how to ask about Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and how to handle disclosures. All three modules are available now on www.hseland.ie
