The US election gave the Republicans a clean sweep - a majority of seats in both the Senate and the House of Representatives - with the new administration taking office in January. These majorities make it more likely that President-elect Trump is able to implement his agenda including tariffs, tax cuts, stricter immigration policies and deregulation for industries like financials, energy and technology. This backdrop has helped push US equities higher since the election amid expected benefits from lower taxes and deregulation, while those in the rest of the world have fallen due to the likely growth shock from tariffs. Government bond yields have also diverged. The rise in US Treasury yields has been driven by the Fed likely being reluctant to reduce rates given a more inflationary backdrop under Trump policies. Meanwhile, the ECB is expected to ease policy more aggressively due to growth headwinds and this has pushed German bund yields lower. US policies under the new administration and reactions to them could have important implications for global growth, inflation, monetary and fiscal policies next year. This is something we will delve into in our 2025 Outlook in December. #ILIM #USelection
