Kilcullen GAA Club was founded in 1889, just five years after the formation of the GAA.

About us

Just five years after the historic meeting at the Hayes Hotel in Thurles when the GAA was founded. Kilcullen had the distinction of providing the first Chairman and Secretary for the Kildare County Board in it’s first year in office. The Club contested three Senior Finals in 1892, 1917 and 1962. The original club colours up to 1908 were Green and Gold, but it was agreed to change to black and white following the All Blacks Rugby team playing in Dublin in that year. The famous nickname of “The Rags” can be traced back to an occasion when Kilcullen played a smartly dressed Dublin team,”Isles of the Sea”, who were very critical of the local team’s attire, or so the story is told. The club's senior men play in Division 3 in Kildare, and in the Intermediate Championship. The club's senior ladies play in Division 1 in Kildare, and in the Senior Championship. Kilcullen has over 1,000 members and fields teams at every age group from U6 to Minor in both boys and LGFA. The club also fields several hurling teams, which is making a resurgence in the town since 2018.

**Support Our Kilcullen GAA Senior Ladies Team 2 Fundraiser for Solothon!** I’m excited to share an initiative close to my heart! As some of you maybe already know, I have been a member of Kilcullen GAA from underage. I have won numerous of county finals for the club alongside taking part in two Leinster matches. As a member of the Kilcullen GAA Senior Ladies Second team, which has recently been introduced in 2023, we have reached 2 league finals gaining two trophies as well as competed in a championship final earlier this month. They are an amazing group of girls to play with and the numbers seem to be growing bigger and bigger! Which is incredible to see! In order to support our team in our continuous growth we need YOUR help!To support our continued development, we are participating in the Kilcullen GAA Solothon on Sunday, November 3rd, with a goal to raise €60,000 for the clubs action plan ‘Field of Dreams’. These funds will go towards essential improvements for our club, including new lights, pitches, goals, walking track and other facilities. Each team is aiming to raise €1,200, and I would greatly appreciate any support you can provide through a donation. If you wish to sponsor our Senior Ladies Second Team fundraiser you can click the link below! ⬇️ Kilcullen GAA Thank you for considering helping us achieve our goals! https://lnkd.in/eaKPD4HT

Calling all businesses: Would you consider donating €500+ to become a main sponsor of the biggest and most ambitious fundraiser ever held by Kilcullen GAA? 🏁 We can include your logo on our website (invoices and receipts can be given) and discuss other promotion. Any queries please contact treasurer.kilcullen.kildare@gaa.ie or 086-2498573. We're over halfway to our target of €60,000 - and we're making great strides! On Sunday (November 3rd) every player from every team at Kilcullen GAA will solo around the main pitch to cumulatively cover a distance of 100km - that's roughly the distance from Kilcullen to Croke Park AND back. 💪🏐 We're aiming high with this one and we need every player and team in the club to take part. 🤝 Check out the teams and individuals involved, and put a few bob behind them: https://lnkd.in/ebNcvWBP. 🙌 Can all players please return any outstanding sponsorship cards by Sunday latest. The car park work is booked in for end of November if we can hit our target. What a great achievement this would be and you can be part of making it happen! Thanks again for your ongoing support. So please please please put your support behind a team or an individual! 🏁🏁🏁 #KilcullenToKroker #HonTheRags #HeartOfTheCommunity #OneClub #KilcullenSolothon

What a week for our Field of Dreams Project with our Project Partners Kilsaran on site completing their tarring of our new 1.2km 3m wide Community Walkway. Now fully in use it’s great to see so many members of our community out enjoying this wonderful new amenity for the town of Kilcullen. Without Kilsaran and all our Project Partners our dream would not have become a reality.#thankyou #community #givingback Derry Mckeown Roy McKeown Pat Phibbs Trevor SchwerThe Interiors Group . Outside of work, sport and particularly Gaelic games have always provided me with an escape and an important social outlet. So as well as coaching juvenile teams, I’ve been delighted more recently to have the opportunity to contribute to the fundraising committee for our Field of Dreams initiative in Kilcullen GAA. Huge work has taken place on the development of our club facilities over the last two years as we look to accommodate a significant increase in population within our community and make sure everyone has access to regular sport and exercise. To support this project we now need one final push and to that end, on Sunday November 3rd 2024 Kilcullen GAA will embark on a 100km ‘Solothon’ Challenge! My son and his teammates will be among all the teams in the club attempting to ‘solo’ the distance from Kilcullen to Croke Park and back in a relay around our grounds. It really will benefit all young people going forward so if you are able to donate any sponsorship for our team while they participate in attempting to beat this challenge, it would be massively appreciated: https://lnkd.in/eR3W_xX5 Cill Chuillinn Abú! 🏁

Studying International Hotel Management has opened doors for me all across the world. While I cherish the opportunity to travel and explore new places, there’s always a part of home that I miss. For as long as I can remember, I have been a member of Kilcullen GAA. Joining the club before the ladies teams had even been established, I have always been proud of my black and white stripes. Moving away from Kilcullen to start my Hotel Management adventure, meant that I left behind a part of my childhood that made me who I am today. Unable to make training, and following match day scores on my phone, I’ve missed contributing to my club and community. To my excitement, Kilcullen GAA has launched a fundraiser which living in London, I can still be a part of! The Solothon sees players from the club run the distance of Kilcullen to Croke Park, and back. I want to play my part in helping the club reach its fullest potential. If you can give anything at all, it would be hugely appreciated! Even if you aren’t in the position to donate, a repost or like, makes a huge difference🖤🤍 Donate using the link below: https://lnkd.in/e8dyZbx7
