As climate challenges grow and consumers become increasingly eco-conscious, the need for sustainable, nutritious protein alternatives is more pressing than ever. Edible insects are emerging as a sustainable, nutritionally dense alternative that's set to transform supermarket shelves. 📈 A Market on the Rise Already common in many Eastern cultures, edible insects are gaining traction in the Western world. Innova Market Insights reveals insect-based protein innovations have surged with an impressive +114% CAGR from 2019-2023. While animal feed leads the way, sports nutrition and cereal products are also gaining traction, growing +11% and +32% respectively. 🦗 Why all the buzz? ◾ Emits just 1% of the greenhouse gases compared to beef or pork ◾ Packs a nutritional punch with high protein, calcium, and iron ◾ Requires minimal feed and resources ◾ Represents a cutting-edge solution for environmentally conscious consumers Pioneering brands like Eat Grub Ltd and Yum Bug are already proving that insect-based products can be both innovative and appetising, offering everything from protein bars to ready meals. 💡 What’s Next? Reflecting the growing demand, next year’s Anuga trade show will debut a new segment, “Anuga Alternatives,” spotlighting insect protein alongside other alternative sources. 🛒 Is Your Supermarket Ready? With consumers increasingly seeking sustainable options, now is the time to explore edible insects. Don’t let your supermarket get left behind on this growing trend! #EdibleInsects #FoodTrend #Sustainability #ProteinAlternatives

With inflation and the cost-of-living crisis continuing to shape consumer choices, more shoppers are turning to private-label products for affordable, high-quality options. This shift isn’t new—but it’s becoming a sustained preference that reaches across all income levels. 🔹 EY’s Future Consumer Index shows that 66% of European consumers now find private labels meet their needs as well as branded items, and nearly two-thirds of them have no plans to switch back. Interestingly, this trend is not just among mid- and lower-income households; higher-income consumers are also increasingly choosing private labels in categories like fresh food and household care. 🔹 In Ireland, Kantar reports an additional €59.2 million spent on private-label products in the 12 weeks to 4 August compared to the same period last year. Premium private-label ranges have seen a 9.4% boost, underlining the demand for quality and value. 🔹 In Germany, 78% of shoppers see private labels as the best way to save on weekly expenses, with 65% buying more than a year ago. This trend is particularly strong among younger consumers (25-34). Top priorities? Price, quality, and ingredient transparency. As consumers increasingly embrace private labels, the opportunity for supermarkets and suppliers to meet this demand is growing fast. At Kwayga, our AI-driven platform empowers buyers to source top-quality, private-label products efficiently and cost-effectively. 🚀 Ready to elevate your private-label sourcing? Book a demo today to see how Kwayga can streamline your sourcing strategy and deliver real savings.
