Infrastructure:   Infrastructure is critical to the growth and rebalancing of Ireland. However, Ireland has long struggled with long-term strategic infrastructure delivery. At Limerick Chamber we focused our general election priorities on aviation, health, public & active transport, as well as port infrastructure. Let's Talk Energy:   With Ireland having the highest energy costs for businesses in Europe, the need for increasing diversity of supply has never been clearer. As well as this we are overexposed to shocks because most of our supply comes from the UK. As part of Limerick Chamber lobbying for the upcoming General Election we outlined why Ireland needs to align with European Union policy on liquefied natural gas, why Ireland needs to advance DMAPs at pace to take full advantage of our renewable energy opportunity and why we need a better policy environment for repowering existing assets. City Centre:   A liveable City Centre is the key to a thriving region. Limerick Chamber has been at the forefront for advocating for a better city through key documents such as the Future Limerick Report and the City Centre Report. There are two clear needs for the city centre, increased worker housing options and increased visible policing – these have formed a bedrock for our lobbying for the city centre as part of the upcoming General Election. Housing: A Key Priority for Economic Growth The housing crisis is a growing concern for businesses in the Mid-West. Limerick Chamber has been at the forefront of advocating for increased home provision for workers, conducting extensive research to identify solutions. Affordable and market housing is essential for business stability and economic growth. However, the current shortage, coupled with inefficiencies in delivery, threatens long-term prosperity. We urge election candidates to prioritize transparency, accountability, and action in tackling this crisis. Key challenges include slow progress from the Land Development Agency (LDA) and the impact of state involvement in the private market. We need real targets for housing delivery to address the needs of both renters and homeowners.
