About us
Migrant Rights Centre Ireland (MRCI) is a national organisation working for justice, empowerment and equality for migrants and their families. Since 2001, MRCI has taken a stand with migrants to tackle the root causes of inequality. We use a community work approach with a focus on participation, leadership and empowerment: almost 1,400 undocumented migrants have joined our Justice for the Undocumented campaign, hundreds of domestic workers campaign for rights through the Domestic Workers Action Group, and our Forced Labour Action Group is made up of people who have experienced trafficking for forced labour and are determined to stamp it out. Our Drop-In Centre provides free and confidential advice, support and information on some 2,000 cases every year. Our caseworkers and legal officer work together to assist people on a vast range of issues around immigration and employment - from straightforward visa renewals to severe labour exploitation.

📢 Your vote can make a difference for migrant workers and their families! As we head into election day this Friday, MRCI’s top priority is reuniting migrant workers with their families. Thousands are separated for years due to an unjust system, and it's time for change. All 6 major political parties have committed to examining this issue if re-elected, with 3 parties making strong pledges for immediate family reunification for migrant workers. 🗳️ Let's ensure Family Reunion is a priority in the Programme for Government. Please consider this when you vote this Friday. #MigrantRights #FamilyReunion #VoteForChange #Election2024

On this World Children’s Day, we call on all election candidates to end the unfair family reunion policy that is separating migrant workers from their children. We need you to talk to your local candidates and ask them for a commitment to change this unfair policy. We need to get family reunion into the next programme for government! Every child deserves to be cared for and looked after by their parents. No child should have to grow up without their Mum or Dad. The family reunion policy is keeping thousands of families apart. We had an insightful week in Brussels 🇪🇺, joining a delegation of Irish stakeholders working on #migration for an informative visit to the European Commission and European Parliament The programme offered a valuable opportunity to explore EU migration policies and the critical role of EU institutions in shaping them. We met with Commissioner Mairead McGuinness 🇪🇺 and Irish Members of the parliment Barry Andrews MEP, @oriordainaodhan Aodhán Ó Riordáin , Michael McNamara MEP, as well as representatives from various Directorates-General and the Irish Permanent Representation to the EU. It was also great to connect with key organisations in the migration space, including Irish Refugee Council, AkiDwA Ireland, Nasc, the Migrant & Refugee Rights Centre, European Movement Ireland, Immigration Council of Ireland, Caidre, Spirasi, Cultúr Migrants Centre and IIEA. Neil Bruton represented Migrant Rights Centre Ireland (MRCI), gathering key takeaways for the team #MigrantMatters #MigrantRights

Let’s get Family Reunion into the Programme for Government! Bethel, a loving mother, works tirelessly to support her children. But an unfair system is separating families, like Bethel’s. A heartbreak that no-one should have to go through. The family reunion rules make it impossible for Bethel to reunite with her family. This isn’t just a personal struggle – it’s a broken system affecting thousands of families who deserve to be together. You can help reunite families by asking your local candidates to make this issue a priority! Read more: https://lnkd.in/eUw-t97n #FamiliesBelongTogether #MigrantRights #FamilyReunion

Our sincere thanks to Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) for their vital support and for this excellent feature on our work fighting for migrant workers' rights in Ireland. At MRCI, we are proud to be part of the broader network of organisations across the EU that are working to amplify the voices of migrant workers and ensure their rights are upheld. We remain committed to empowering migrant workers in Ireland and beyond, and we will continue to push for policies that promote dignity, fairness, and equality for all. 🇪🇺 Workers from non-EU countries are employed all over Europe – but when it comes to their rights, there is a two-tier system. 🚫 Workers from the low-wage sector often live and work in particularly precarious conditions – even though their labour in areas such as care, agriculture or the meat industry is just as needed as labour in the so-called “critical skills” sector. ⚖️ Our project partner Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) campaigns for the rights of migrant workers and therefore has established a network of supporting organizations throughout the EU. One of them is the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland (MRCI). 📍🇮🇪 There in Dublin, you can see impressively how those affected are raising their voices themselves – and what they achieve by joining forces. ➡️ Here is their full story: https://lnkd.in/eUiZEfUf #MigrantWorkers #FairConditions #MigrationSystem #Migration | Lilana Keith | Neil Bruton | Hannes Einsporn
