About us

For over 130 years, MSD has been inventing for life, bringing forward medicines and vaccines for many of the world's most challenging diseases in pursuit of our mission to save and improve lives. MSD is a trade name of Merck & Co., Inc., with headquarters in Kenilworth, N.J., U.S.A. We demonstrate our commitment to patients and population health by increasing access to health care through far-reaching policies, programs and partnerships. Today, MSD continues to be at the forefront of research to prevent and treat diseases that threaten people and animals — including cancer, infectious diseases such as HIV and Ebola, emerging animal diseases, and, most recently, Covid-19 — as we aspire to be the premier research-intensive biopharmaceutical company in the world. Our apprenticeships offer a unique way to enter the pharma industry without following the traditional educational route. For many, like Carrie Aldridge, this means the chance to explore a passion for science while earning a degree and building workplace skills simultaneously. As a second-year student in our laboratory apprenticeship programme, Carrie is on a journey to qualify as a laboratory analyst while gaining invaluable hands-on experience. We are delighted to be retuning as gold sponsor at the 21st Health Summit taking place in Croke Park tomorrow, bringing together healthcare leaders to shape the future of Ireland’s health system. A key conversation for us at MSD will be on the importance of prioritising women’s health as a path to better health outcomes for Ireland. We’ll be on stage discussing this important topic from 10am onwards – if you’ll be at the event make sure to tune in.  This panel will explore the connection between women’s health and the resilience of our healthcare system, tackling inequalities and discussing opportunities for better prevention, treatment, and management of disease. Improving women’s health isn’t just about closing gaps in care - it’s about building a stronger, more equitable healthcare system for everyone.  Alongside our own Sinead Tuite, Vaccines Business Lead, we’re proud to be joined by Bernie Carter, Assistant Director of Nursing, Marie Keating Foundation and Kathy Maher, Pharmacy Owner & Chair, Pharmacy Contractors Committee at the IPU. At MSD, we believe that prioritising women’s health means building a more inclusive and sustainable healthcare system - one that ensures every woman receives the care, support, and resources she needs at every stage of life. We're looking forward to the discussion! #HealthSummit2025

  • This week in Brussels, MSD Ireland (Human Health) Managing Director, Samantha Humphreys, and Government Affairs Manager, Blaine Gaffney, met with Irish MEPs and officials from the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU. Their discussions were focused on MSD's evolving footprint, the positive contributions our organisation is making to Ireland, and the potential impacts of EU legislative changes on both patients and the pharmaceutical industry in Ireland and across the EU. This is a critical time for Europe and the renewed focus on EU competitiveness is an important development as negotiations on the revision of the General Pharmaceutical Legislation continue.   Ireland holds a prominent position as the third-largest exporter of pharmaceuticals globally. Employing approximately 45,000 people within the industry and with an impressive €116 billion in global exports in 2023, it is critical to recognise that developments within Europe have substantial implications for Ireland. Thank you to Barry Cowen MEP, Ciaran Mullooly MEP, Nina Carberry MEP, Billy Kelleher MEP, Cynthia Ní Mhurchú MEP, Regina Doherty MEP and Seán Kelly MEP, as well as the team at the Irish Permanent Representation, for facilitating and engaging in these important discussions on various policy issues. At MSD Ireland, we remain dedicated to collaborating with our EU and national stakeholders to positively impact patient outcomes in Ireland and beyond.
